I am so bad at doing this myself and have been doing my best to remind myself not to outline things that don't have outlines. It's so hard though when you've been doing it for so long. Lol! Thanks for the tip and the example! The difference is night and day!!!

I just checked some portraits I made to look for this mistake and found a "lipstick heavy" example. I now wonder if it would have turned out easier on the eye if I had ignored the reference photo in that respect and just had gone with more natural lips. 🤔 But maybe that would have clashed with the heavy eye make-up and blush. 😅 Either way, it's a good tip to look out for this in general. 😊 Thanks for the video! 🌼

I have always wondered how to show the contrast between where a facial feature is and the surrounding skin without outlining the feature! This is such a tiny little thing in a way but it makes such a HUGE difference! Thanks for the tips!

Thank you. I did a graphite pencil drawing and gave up at the light contour around the lips. I'll probably try and erase the contour line next time.

Great tip! Will keep an eye out when using a reference photo to avoid the dark lines.

When you go over with pencil, do you press hard or are you doing it very softly on top? How does it blend? ✨✨

I do it, I am guilty, now I know why, thanks. And you make that tablet look so easy, I have 2 and need to get comfortable with them, it is the drag that gets me. Anyway you rock, your tutorials and art in them are wonderful, thank you again for sharing. 😎❤😎👍

Guilty, though my lines are not as dark as what you showed in the first example. I learned a lot and subscribed, thank you. 👍🏻

some secondary advice you were giving here was to take your time with things. For me, there is this strong need to sit down and make a complete piece, all in one go. and what happens is I rush things just to complete something, instead of taking my time and ensuring it's done properly! Madness! It was a bad habit I learned from highschool art teachers (where we HAD to make complete pieces in a single class) and it took forever to unlearn! It's okay to take your time and do things properly over the course of days/weeks instead of skipping important techniques just for the sake of finishing something
