They also love to find fences that have been functioning and helping us thrive for hundreds of years, and try to rip the whole entire fence down, cuz one of the people who helped build the fence, hundreds of years ago, might have done something that is considered morally wrong today.. Or maybe they just didn’t have the same values as them.

The explanation of the contrast was nicely articulated.

Found a very historic forgotten and overgrown cemetery for quarantined immigrants exactly like that. Litterally a fence in a small field next to the ocean.
Boss: tear down that old fence. It's an eye sore
Me: why is the fence there?
Boss: shut up take it down!
I start moving brush and tall grass next to the fence to inspect the earth. Lo and behold... gravestones.

The reason why there is a fence there is because there is something on the other side.

Even if you throw in the slavery argument, which is a valid argument, and was debated by Jefferson and others in support of freeing the slaves, you can still not argue that the founding fathers did not give way to the greatest, most revered society in human history.

Can you explain why sexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, nepotism and the pooling of wealth are fences that need to stand?

Freedom denotes their being oppression at some point. Some would argue that change is the foundation for freedom not clinging to tradition

I do understand the history behind the Jewish law prohibiting sex before marriage. However, we now have contraceptives, so 🤷🏻?

The opposite of conservatism is not leftism. It’s liberalism. Not sure what a smart man like you is up to with that rhetoric. Also the fences that the liberal wants to uproot are the ones that leave out people who have rights as people and whose status on the wrong side of the fence causes ahuman suffering. It’s true sometimes we lose the big picture because we’re moved by the suffering. That’s why we have a democracy with checks and balances. Liberalism has a real blind side. So does conservatism. In this case the conservative often learns that the fence is reasonable and works and is in many ways a good idea and then turn a blind eye to the suffering it causes because it’s not causing the conservative to suffer. What the conservative doesn’t know is that when one part of the body is suffering, it will eventually cause the whole body to suffer, however oblivious we might be to the suffering of the initial and perhaps less “essential” part of the body.

That's a very unfair and subjective statement to make.

why is the assumption that a left person would rip the fence out? I dont get that

Conservatism goes further though it is learning the fence doesn’t necessarily serve a purpose but keeping it there anyway cause it “looks good”. Most political scholars are critical thinkers, this is a poor analogy

Just saying I don’t think what president you voted for has anything to do with a fence being removed, I would consider myself a left but if I saw a fence I would just leave it alone, It’s probably there for a reason

Its why our forefathers kept certain things locked in a box, but their wisdom was lost, we wanted to be nice and let lunatics free to roam, , but lunacy infected others, and now they refuse to return to the box, and Rome falls!!

I think the leftist would find out why the fence is there and decide if it is there for a reason or not, and either remove it or make it stronger depending on findings.

A conservative would leave the fence alone.

The "Libertarian" would rip up the fence.
