Description:

When it comes to faux fur or real fur, many people stand on both sides of the line. But when you really think about the virtues of each, there is only one real winner. Here are 10 Reasons Why You Should ONLY Wear Faux Fur!

For one thing, real fur is way more expensive. The high-end garments can be thousands and thousands of dollars. Who has that kind of money to spend on one thing? You can get faux fur for less than half the price and still look great.

Faux fur lasts longer. There are a billion rules on how to keep real fur coats looking nice. You can’t just store them anywhere. You have to be very specific about how you care for your real fur coat and even then it will probably only last for about 20-25 years. Talk about not a great investment.

There are also thousands of faux fur designs that you can choose from. You can get faux fur in any color from lime green to bright pink. Think of the craziest color you can come up with, and you can get a faux fur item in that color. With real fur, you are much more limited.

Whether it’s the price point, the care details, or animal rights, there are lots of reasons to pick faux over real fur! Stay tuned to 10 Reasons Why You Should ONLY Wear Faux Fur to find out why wearing a purse with a real fur coat is a no-no!

A real fur coat may cost more upfront but will save you in the long run. A fur coat is durable when well taken care of and won’t need to be replaced nearly as often as faux fur coats. They’re also warmer, so more faux fur is needed to insulate you. Plastic in general does not insulate as well as natural hairs designed to trap on heat.

Faux fur does more harm than good. Faux fur is made of plastic and plastic is made of oil. Oil is harmful in many ways. It gets into our oceans, into our ground. And then we turn it into plastic. Faux fur is made of plastic and other synthetic wear that all stems from oil. In the wash, micro fibers shed and end up in our water ways and oceans. Plus they shed plastic particles in general that will never deteriorate into our ecosystem. This means that these plastic fibers will just keep piling up and continue to kill our ecosystems. Faux fur not only kills animals, INCLUDING all of the animals no one cares about like mice and insects and spiders, but plants as well. It isn’t as great as it’s made out to be. And because it’s made of plastic and won’t last as long as a fur coat would, a faux fur coat would eventually have to be replaced since it would lose its insulation. This means even MORE oil and plastic will end up into the environment. Plastic straws don’t even match up to the sheer amount of damage faux fur and other synthetic products like blankets and clothes does to our environment. Faux fur kills more animals and plants than most people want to admit or even think about.

Dudes, as a Canadian trapper I can tell you, trapping is a humane process. The death is as swift as possible because you want to minimize the stress on the animal to maintain the quality of the fur. The life span of faux fur is not nearly as long as this video claims. On average faux fur clothing lasts approximately 6 years. Because it is cheap, people do not put the effort into maintaining the piece and they wind up in the trash or at a good will store, and then into the trash. Real fur clothing is an investment and can last much longer than 20 years. I inherited my grandmother's coyote coat from my mother, so it is much older than 20 years.
Faux Furs are made from polymer fibres which are a microplasti. We have seen what microplastics in toiletry products do to the environment, faux fur is in the same boat. So instead of killing an animal in a respectful way, you are slowly killing it by poisoning it's habitat. But out of sight out of mind right?
Personally I think fur shouldn't be used in fashion garments, its should be used in practical pieces, like winter ware, for places that actually get cold. No man made fibre can beat mother nature when it comes to insulation, water resistance, breathe-ability, and antimicrobial properties. If you are looking for the best environmentally friendly alternative to real fur, try no fur. There is a good chance you don't NEED a faux fur coat.

In my family if the animals ties naturally we keep the fur if we eat and kill that animal for food we keep the fur so I don’t mind wearing the fur over a shoulder

Faux fur is made out of “coal, air, water, petroleum, and limestone.” Adding to Global Warming. 😂

Faux fur is disgusting and bad for the environment. It doesn’t even feel like fur

I think full fur jackets is just over the top and not necessary but I think it’s better as the collar of a coat or on hats and scarves etc. It depends on the coat but mine has real fur and faux fur and there is clearly a lot more faux fur, besides, depending on the brand some fur is taken from animals that have died naturally. And actually a real fur coat doesn’t take as much work as you think. It’s perfectly fine to go out in the rain with real fur you can just blow dry it or put it on the heater 😂😂

I have a faux fur coat and it has been shedding like crazy! So much that the fibers got stuck all over the sweater I had been wearing underneath it and really badly! It's impossible to pick them all off! The fibers from the coat have wrapped and almost felted with the fibers of the sweater. Both were made of man made fibers and I was very surprised because wools are the ones that felt easiest and generally I wouldn't have thought the acrylic/polyester fibers would. I have been having trouble finding an answer anywhere of how to get this coat to stop shedding! Anyone have ideas???

Here's an easy way to choose between faux fur or real fur, just think about any pet that you have or your family has, then imagine skinning it and turning its skin into a jacket, that's the same as wearing real fur

no designers realized they could make more money selling there name on a plastic coat than a quality coat that cost more for them to make

Faux fur is crap. I tried on a red fox coat and it made me feel like a million bucks! I am a animal lover but I appreciate fur and leather clothing. Let me put this in another way, would you rather have a cubic zirconium over a real diamond? I think not.

I applaud TheTalko for informing people of alternatives in ways to suit their personal beliefs and financial situations, but that information loses it's effectiveness when (and I'm not saying this was intentional) there is a lot of misinformation about the other side or arguments with a bit of bias/onesidedness, ethnocentrism/dismissing cultural relativism and appealing to the crowd. I actually argued all 10 points (which was kinda fun), but was getting too long so I'll just give 3 simplified examples;

*NO HARM DONE* 1:02 : PETA can be very questionable and there are plenty of vids on that already. But, horrible practices committed by some individuals in an industry does not mean that it's the industry's policy as a whole. Like all goods and services, consumers must do their research. This can lead them to find ethically, environmentally friendly and responsibly sourced and sold furs to insure animals were not suffering unnecessary cruelty and so on.

Also, depending on our culture(s), country, religious affiliation and environment, etc, we sometimes consider some animals acceptable to eat and use compared to others. That's not wrong. If one thinks that, would they suggest going vegan? I mean, just go home and look at your dog in the eyes. Would you ever consider eating them for dinner? Then why would a cow be any different? That would sound funny to a lot of people here in North America because we regard dogs and cows differently in some respects. Honestly, when comes to loving animals and eating them, the two are not mutually exclusive, ironic maybe in some cases, but not impossible.

*SO MANY OPTIONS* 1:40 : The lack or colour and room for personal expression is not true with genuine fur. Screen printing, digital printing and dyeing fur allows designers to present skins in a wonderful array of colours and prints on the fur side and leather side. Want hot pink genuine fox fur in leopard print, you can buy it or have it made.

*PETA FRIENDLY* 4:14 : Should your personal choice in clothing (or lack thereof) inherently reflect on whether or not you're gonna be assaulted? Seems like blaming the victim a bit. PETA can be very much a loose cannon at times and not even they agree with faux-fur because they said it still promotes the fur trend. Because not even they can always tell the difference.

I say do what feels right but that also does good. There are a lot of misconceptions about the fur trade and even I use to have differing opinions about fur until I actually did my research. But if one chooses to not partake in real fur, that's okay. But if you choose to partake in real fur, that's okay as well.
