I evacuated Tampa on Sunday, am in a hotel in Georgia. Neighbors said our houses are safe with no damage. I'm going to stay here maybe another week before returning.

I'm an old Florida Conservationist. Way back in the sixties, we tried to prevent the beachfront development in Sarasota and Venice area to preserve the pristine sugar sand beaches and prevent/diminish disasters like these. They pretty much ruined it with their ridiculous beach renourishment programs that used coarser imported sand filled with coquina shells. They let us write articles and speak. We didn't protest back then. I doubt it would have helped. The greedy folks in local government let Yankee developers and speculators from other parts of the state have their way. Tallahassee went all out to attract new residents to fill the coffers. Now, fifty years later, we have a polished talking head from Fox News giving us the lowdown.

Clueless! Sad.

I never say I told you so ... we tol' ya! Now look! I feel for the dewey-eyed marks who got bilked by the scammers, but that doesn't change the fact that karma is a B.

Things are getting real on God's timeline. It's time to straighten up and fly right before it is too late. It's already too late for Florida but it's not too late for souls. Let's store up treasure in heaven instead of piling it up here. "There will be a new heaven and a new Earth." I hope to see you there.

Ex Beachfront property owners for 11 years and sold property a few years ago. We were fortunate to have no severe storms during our ownership in the Florida panhandle, but our unit had been gutted a year before we bought it, and the town received major damage from Michael right after we sold. I will say, we will never own there again but will visit to help those communities if we can. It’s a gamble being a rental property owner there, and can be nerve wracking in every way. But please, if you want to vacation there, watch the weather, and do go and support those businesses when they reopen.

I imagine the other prime focus of the National Guard is to prevent looting.

People who are saying it's not that bad forgot 39+ reported tornados happened across the state. Lots of damage

They have no problem covering this but still refuse to cover Helene even though it was 10 times worse in the mountains. Repulsive
