Mozambique: Red Cross drone footage shows extent of devastation

With Mozambican authorities now warning that the death toll may climb beyond 1,000, new drone footage reveals the extent of damage caused by Tropical #CycloneIdai. The footage – taken on 18 March – shows how the storm flattened the informal settlement of Praia Nova on the edge of the central Mozambican city of Beira.

As many as 400,000 people are believed to have been displaced by the storm and the flooding it caused. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is calling this a major emergency, and will be appealing for 10 million Swiss francs to support tens of thousands of people.
