The RTX 3080 is at an all time low in terms of price, but you shouldn't buy one, and here's why.

So not only is it a terrible idea to buy a GPU over a year and a half after it launched for well over MSRP, but it also teaches Nvidia they can charge more next generation, and speaking of which the current rumors suggest that the 4080 could be announced in less than 2 months now bringing a massive performance increase and 6 more GB of VRAM.

So if you really need a card consider grabbing an AMD GPU below MSRP, or just wait for prices to drop lower.

I'm personally expecting the RTX 4080 to have 16GB of VRAM and bring 50% more performance than the RTX 3080 for 350W.

I found a 3080 12Gb for $900 when starting my build. I needed a desktop for school and realized I could ball out and make it a game worthy rig. I had no idea that 13th Gen Intel and 40 series were dropping this year. I also do not care, lol. I have a 12900K + 3080 12Gb + DDR5 setup, I don’t need anything for years to come, and when I upgrade to a 5000 series in 6, 7, maybe even 8 years, I’ll still be getting one for msrp or under. This video sucks, lol.

I expect that RTX 4080 to easily clear $1000. Nvidia knows how impulsive and insane gamers are. They will easily bust out that credit card and buy a $1600 4080 even though they got like $150 in their bank account.

No. 3080 is still an amazing card, even if you buy it used for less than 500 bucks. The 4000s series are not going to launch at msrp/reasonable price. The gpu shortage doesn’t just disappear once a new series is launched

So now that we can actually purchase a GPU, for a decent price, we should all continue to wait indefinitely to purchase Pc components because there’s always something better just around the corner. It’s also hilarious how you’re under the assumption that the new 40 series will be readily available for purchase at our own leisure, upon their initial release.
