Learn to Hand Sew: Rolled Hem

Welcome to another Quick Stitch tutorial!

The sixth technique in our hand sewing series is the rolled hem. This technique is used for finishing raw edges on fine items like millinery and ruffles. The technique we show in this tutorial is not the modern rolled hem technique, but rather what we believe is being done in the 18th century to achieve tiny, fine hems. Left handed? We have you covered!

I just started learning how to sew by myself a few months ago, and this came on autoplay while i was looking for different hem stitches. It's exactly what I needed!! This channel is great. I like that you explain what each stitch is good for at the beginning. Thank you very much! 🤗

Very nice, thank you! You mentioned that this technique works less well on curves and bias edges; is there a different technique for those, or does one just....muddle along?

Is this the same method used for doing a rolled hem on a silk scarf?

I am new to this, what do you mean when you say pull a thread? And how do that?
