Are you still making any of these mistakes when training? It's hard to be completely error free but sometimes having a list of mistakes to avoid will remind you and keep you error free. I hope this episode assists many people out there.

Awesome video, I'd be thrilled for an episode about kicks. To sum this one up :
For stamina -> relax your body (3) and breathe while punching (5)
For defense -> tuck your chin (1) and keep your other hand up (4)
For offense -> punch with your whole body (6) and don't telegraph (2)

Number 3 is such a tough balance, it’s super easy to be relaxed when your hitting the bag (eventually). As soon as you get hit it’s hard not to over strain, especially because intuitively your body knows it’s doing something physical and the last thing your body wants to do is stay “relaxed” but the dichotomy is you would hit better if you weren’t trying to bench press your punch’s lol

If you power your right hand from your left foot, then since your left hand is guarding you it can also help ground you, and your right foot can add rotation to your waist. Combine all 4 and your strike will come without effort. The motion is like tearing a phone book in half with a quick snap.

Hi GV - PUNCHING MISTAKES. So, so true. People have no idea how rigorous boxing science is... and how so many factors play into making it effective. Dead on. EDIT: No. 2 on the 'Telegraph, ' skilled boxing fits altogether nicely... but it takes dedicated training to punch from the face... as it is unnatural for the hands to be held there for any length of time. CHEERS. P.S. MMA is especially guilty.🦔

Invaluable for a noob like me! Thanks!
I am a similar build to you but 2 inches taller and I'm playing catch-up (I'm 26) starting out and your videos have been a great wealth of knowledge to me.

I have a question for you on breathing

Where should I be breathing "into" and "out of" so to speak should I be breathing into my belly or chest or right under the ribs? Is it a sharp exhalation on contact with my target or right as my shoulder is leading the punch?

I want to ensure I am learning about breathing in out properly before I lock in any bad habits. Thank you sir and have a great day.

I would subscribe and even pay monthly for guided shadowboxing and mobility drills / various workouts I know you post them for free here and there but those videos really have helped me start out conditioning and understanding what fight specific muscles need to be worked after you smoke me with those lol 😅

3:00 is what I struggle with the most. When you say tense at the last second, what specifically are you supposed to tense up? It'd be your whole arm, right? And then immediately relax to contract?

Hi Gabriel, thanks for all the awesome videos, it's like a kickboxing goldmine. ✨haha
Could you please make a video on "What makes Rico Verhoeven SO GREAT?" He's been on top since 2014 and aims for a 10-year streak—or so I heard. Pretty impressive. Thanks again & looking forward to your next video! 👊🏻

Wow. Really nice.

Did you make a video on breathing?

Like pros and cons between those who breathe thru nose only? Or those who don't make sound with punching or kicking versus who don't?

I've always wondered since I find it easier to not shout or no pss pss sound when sparring.

Tony Jeffries sais on his video "HOW TO PUNCH Correctly in Boxing | Fist Position" that you should have your fist tight right from the start to avoid the opponent moving in into the punch while you have a loose hand. According to him, you should keep your fists tense from the moment you start to move for the punch, but learn to have everything but your fists relaxed.

What do you think about this approach?

What about how boxing gloves hold your thumb in the wrong spot for stability causing wrist breaks

Mistake #2 is more common than you think and even experienced fighters do that without knowing until they have a coach actually point it out
