Her sisters didn't just fall off a cliff; Psyche KILLED them. See, both her sisters were married to these really rich dudes; I think they were kings. But they'd always been SUPER jealous of Psyche 'cause she was prettier than them, so when they see that she was living in much greater luxury and splendor than they were, they got pissed. They told Psyche to sneak a peek at her lover because they wanted her to get eaten or something... So when Psyche does, and Eros leaves her, she realizes what her sisters did and loses her cool a bit.... She goes to each sister in their home and tells them who her lover really was, and then that he left her because of her betraying his faith, and that he loved the sister instead... She says that the West Wind will come to collect them the same way it did for her, and so they needed to go jump off the same cliff and be whisked away to a life of bliss with Eros. Each sister, like a stupid bitch, falls for this.... they have such big heads that they put on their finest clothes and jewels, tell their rich/king husbands to screw themselves, and head for the cliff. Shouting something basically like "I'm here, my love!" they jump off the cliff, expecting the West Wind to take them to paradise... he's not coming. The dumb asses thus plummet to their violent, splattery deaths. Once they're both SUPER dead, then Psyche goes about trying to get Eros back.

The whole thing with Eros being a monster is true, as one of his characterisations is that he is an ancient force that even the Gods fear. So the Oracle was right, Psyche did fall in love with a 'hideous monster', because that is Eros, and Eros didn't trick her into falling in love with him (when you're stabbed with one of his arrows, you fall in love, hence the term 'hit with cupids arrow'), as she was already in love with him when he was invisible, but the arrow made her 2x in love with him. I hope this clears up some of the confusion you felt, and sorry for nerding out (I really like Greek Myths and OSP)

The reason he was invisible is because he wanted her to fall in love with him for real and not just by default as being Eros. Also he is technically a terrifying monster because all the gods fears him, being a primordial being that can have power over them!

'Cherubs are terrifying four-faced monsters'

I think Bayonetta portrayed cherubs like that

Fun Fact!: The ancient greek version of the gods was less as being 'above the flaws of humanity' and more like being super super more than humans. Like their kindness, their generosity, their jealousy, their sorrow, all of it was supposed to be incredibly extreme compared to humans.

The reason why the Oracle says “You will fall in love with a monster that even the gods fear” is because, in some ways, that’s exactly what Eros is. One of the greatest fears imaginable for an immortal entity is to not be in control of yourself or your situation. One mistake can be the start to a never ending personal hell. So falling into a kind of ‘madness’ for a partner that you didn’t technically choose and can scar you for eternity (and that would be the best case scenario) would such in the long run. Having such an ability that would make anyone think twice, no matter how gorgeous the wrapping is.

9:24 Psyche has butterfly wings because the story was low-key the life cycle of the butterfly (psyche has this whole journey, takes a nap, and wakes up with wings, like a butterfly)

the prophecy was she marry a monster so terrible even the gods fear Eros is "Love".I think it was honest. Love is a wonderful and dangerous force. On his part I think he wanted to be seen the horrible monster because he didn't want to cross his mother, the person he ran to the moment she hurt him. Eros is a bit of a mam's boy

As far as the "monster that the gods fear" bit, eros was described that way sometimes. And the reason he was invisible, was something along the lines of he was "too beautiful" or something

The Olympian gods were very petty. Heck, Paris was screwed no matter which goddess he said was fairest. But Aphrodite could be very nasty if insulted(which was very easy to do because Greek gods were petty), such as the time she had a guy killed for insulting her by feeding his horses a special brew the night before a race, and during the race they went mad and ate him.

This is late... but just listen for a sec.
Imagine you're Aphrodite. Imagine being literally worshipped for being gorgeous for millennia. And then imagine some mortal princess being worshipped above you for being prettier. It can take a big hit at your ego, after all that time. And also the fact that after a couple millennia, you'd start to go a little bit bonkers, anyway, so that's probably why Aphrodite was so petty.

Eros has the power to force any one into love, because of that even the gods fear him and the Oracle is always vague with detailed so that things like this happen
