When Cave Johnson died, the Engineers burned his house down with a couple Combustible Lemons.

I like how this track "evolves" as you progress through Old Aperture. It starts off soft, with natural instruments. However, once you reach the eighties segment; you start hearing synth instead of the regular instruments. This is also the time Cave Johnson develops robots to replace human test subjects. Even Cave Johnson's dying wish was to have his mind installed in a computer system. But also stated, that if he were to die before the system was completed, that his assistant, Caroline would take his place, eventually becoming the Aperture AI. The music is hinting that something, once alive, has become robotic. The synth part also acts as a farewell to Cave Johnson, knowing that he would die soon after, and no one else would have even known that he even existed.

The mere change of orchestration is enough to describe the complete about-face of Aperture Science, it's so powerful. And it does so in such a gradual way, that while playing you don't even notice the change until it's already over. So eerie.
