What i love about portal is, its not a horror game, its a Puzzle/Comedy game. Yet it manages to be scarier than most games with the horror tag on them. I love both games but god they creep me the fuck out

The lyrics are actually just word salad. But in-context, it's being sung by GLaDOS as the potato is pecked by the bird. The potato is sustaining her mind. So this is the opera equivalent of someone screaming random words as their brain is eaten away.

There are no intelligible lyrics beyond the titular "potato lacrimosa". Ellen McClain, also a classically trained vocalist, stated that she created the song by singing random phrases in Italian, as well as random Italian words picked from a dictionary at varied pitch and tone. The producers added the characteristic GLaDOS voice filter and then used editing to weave a coherent melody from the most compatible sound bites. McClain also stated that she was nervous because her Italian pronunciation was rusty but relieved that the voice filter made it difficult to tell (so difficult apparently, that people have begun extrapolating pseudo-Latin mystery lyrics from her absolutely beautiful but indiscernible wailing....I call it the "I found the Virgin Mary in my toast" effect).

Amazing how a simple puzzle game has one of the most deepest storylines of pretty much any other game I've played.

wow, this is just... wow. Portal maybe have a handful of jokes and humor and being fun, but when you actually think about the story, it's horrifying, as all of the peole i told them about it thought.

This song symbolizes GLaDOS realizing what it means to be taken out of her power. She had all the strength in the world, but now she's reduced to a simple potato battery. For the first time in her life, she knows what it's like to have to sit and await her fate. For the first time, she is truly sad.
