After 14 years of no sugar and three years of keto, I am never turning back! All I’m missing is the fatigue, the bulging tummy, the extra twenty pounds, and the extreme addiction to sugar! At 59-years-old, I choose to stay here at 110 pounds with a flat stomach and tons of energy! These experts have obviously never given keto a try. Thank you, Dr. Westman!!

So much negative press against low carb …. I think pharmaceutical companies are getting nervous as well as big box grocers

Here's the bottom line "FOR ME" I'm male 6'2" and 67 years old. When I retired, I was 298 pounds. Started swimming 1 hour per day - every day. Counted my calories in vs out. Watched what I was eating and started eating healthier. I lost 30 Lbs but could not shed the weight around my mid section. Started doing some research and discovered "insulin resistance". That was a game changer! Started following a low carb diet and quasi keto and started seeing results. Stopped most processed foods and especially refined sugar. I used to be a sugar addict. Maintaining low carbs was difficult at first. Now its easy. I skip breakfast and eat within a 6 hour window, 2 meals / day I progressed slowly into a full keto diet and now include 48 hour fasting on a weekly basis. I dropped another 50 Lbs within 6 months. The best result was a significant reduction in my arthritis! Last check up at my doctor and he told me my blood work was excellent and whatever I was doing, keep doing it! I am on my way to a target weight of dropping below 200 Lbs. I feel amazing, my energy level is far better my cognitive skills have improved and my previous sunny disposition on life is returning. So if Keto is considered risky, I will take it and live a more fulfilling life by the lifestyle changes it has given me. Just my story and more evidence of what it can do. Plus, I prefer the foods on Keto rather than eating like a grazing cow in the field.

4 years ago my doctor told me I’m prediabetic and I need to loose some weight. Their was nothing I could do to lower my sugar level. Luckily 1 year later YouTube university showed me keto diet and now I am not prediabetic anymore and I am 10 kilograms off my ideal weight.

Dr Westman, I'm Thankful for Doctors such as yourself, and Ken Berry; that continue to pull back the curtain and reveal myths, Lies, and truths when it comes to low Carb eating. Thank You!

His choice of the word "suppress" is interesting. They cannot deny that keto keeps blood sugar down, so they have decided to paint keeping blood sugar down as a "suppression", which has a negative connotation. It is a verbal trick.

I agree with Dr. Westman. We also need to consider how well the opposition presents their information! They speak very well with clear, well-planned, uninterrupted sentences and attractive graphics that reach Mr. and Mrs. Average. No wonder they’re so persuasive! Thankfully, Dr. Westman is kind enough to counter their wild claims for us!

I’m over 4 years into my keto ways and my doctor congratulates me at every yearly physical. I had 11 items out of range on blood labs now I only have one, slightly elevated LDL. I eat fatty meats and 18 eggs every week with green veggies sprinkled in and lost over 80 pounds. Thanks Doc!

Every time I hear "whole grains" my gut recoils.
Don’t miss the IBS nonsense. ✌️

I was a fat, whole food consuming vegan who was embarrassed by my metabolic health given my focus on healthy eating. Then for the second time my FBG was high, doc uncaring, but I was! Went mild keto--maybe not as much fat as recommended, but more than I used to allow. Lots of green things. Started eating organic humanely raised chicken, fish, and grass fed/finished beef. I would never have imagined! So after a few months--cholesterol down from 265 to 200, A1C down from 5.6 to 5.2, LDL way down to 100, triglycerides 43, HDL 86 (always was 100 before). Most interesting was GFR was optimal range, where I kept being accused of having CKD. If those folks can do better, I challenge them. Oh yeah, my daily glucoses range in 90s (could be better), maybe a tad into 100's postprandially, occasionally BG in 70s and 80s. Sure, sure anecdotal but come on! That is radical in four months!! I just have to make peace with eating flesh. Working on it

So refreshing to hear the voice of reason. It was frightening when I first came to low-carb, then Keto 16 years ago before there was much on the internet. When your health can't wait, these naysayers can be downright dangerous. I had to go it alone in 2007, but my health improved so quickly I knew I had to keep going. Unfortunately, my social group is moving to all-plant based & have become politicalized over it. They use industrial seed oils to cook with. Our meals together have become an unspoken battle ground (I simply eat before or after.) BTW, If you end up sick or dead, you can't help the planet, no?

Low carb is working for me and I'm going to stick with this way of eating. Some people try to find reasons not to cut out foods that they like or are addicted to. When I told my daughter that I was eating low carb, the first thing she said was oh I couldn't live without bread. I didn't think that I could either but I have done so for 18 months now and even thought I enjoyed bread, I don't miss it. Chaffles and mug bread fill this gap when I need "transport" for other food.

Has anyone seen the South Park episode of Cartman screaming " The food pyramid's upside down". There's often much truth masked as comedy. I am 100% carnivore and I'm thriving on it.

After being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2003 I have adapted the low carb lifestyle and 20 years later still not on medications or considered a diabetic 😊 Must be doing something right. Thank you for sharing this important information.
