Worked like a charm. It literally took about 2 minutes to fix. I saved money and time; no need for home depot. And I look like a hero to the wife. Hahahahah... Yeah, sweet.

Thank you so much. My Glacier Bay toilet is not the same as yours, but after reviewing several youtube, I was able to fix my hissing noise. However, i didnt realize i must shut down the water first ( I did try but it was too tight to shut off). I got flooded but I was able to fix the hissing by following your and other steps. Thanks so much. God bless people's good deed like yours.

Literally took me 3 min to fix, THANK YOU! I'm thankful nothing was alive and hissing, that I didn't have to call anyone, and that y'all put this video up.

My new toilet had this issue, and indeed there are 2 tiny little sediment in the fill valve, must be packaging issue! This video solved the problem, much appreciated!

Did what the lady said, and also used an old tooth brush to scrub the rubber disc thing, then rinsed it off under the sink. Made sure the hole in the disc that the metal pin goes through was clear also. Great tip, Water Matrix!

Oh my gosh, this was so easy! Finally, peace and quiet. I could hear the hissing in my living room, so I had been turning off the water after every flush. Now it’s just quiet. Thank you!

Thank you!! I was able to fix this myself without having to call someone else. I too didn't get the cap on tight enough and sprayed the room with water.

This helped me fix my hissing toilet. BUT you neglect to mention how to get the top of fill valve off. Yes, a quarter-turn counterclockwise, but you must hold the arm assembly up, so that it's horizontal. Otherwise at least on some models, the valve cap can't be removed easily. (if it's so difficult that you're tempted to pry it up with a tool, you're not removing it correctly.) It's 2-handed job -- elevate the arm and then turn the fill valve cap. This is how I did it on a Fluidmaster Universal Fill Valve. Cleaning the rubber seal silenced my toilet.

I feel like a boss! Took me 15 mins in total and worked perfectly. Found a thin layer of sediment surrounding the little black rubber valve.

Thanks for the post! Removing the cap at the top of the valve is not required to remove the cap assembly. It makes removing the assembly more difficult actually. We recommend lifting the float cup while holding onto the valves shaft with one hand and twisting the cap and lever arm together counter clock-wise with the other. Also, holding a cup upside down over the uncapped fill valve will allow you to turn the water on fully.

I thought I had an issue with the gasket around the flapper, turned out cleaning this was the issue instead. Took 2minutes and worked like a charm! Thanks!

My husband and I were installing a bidet and we didn't understand why after installing, the toilet kept making a hissing noise. Well he followed the video and the black piece was extremely dirty. We rent so this things happen
He clean out the piece, and the problem was fix. No more hissing noise and our bidet works just fine. Thank you very much for this video

Amazing! This actually worked! Crazy how such a small piece can make such an annoying sound.

Note: if you turn the water valve and it's still hissing, it's not draining, the water pressure is still on. I found out the hard way 😂

This fixed my problem, had bits of metal and a bit of porcelain stuck in the bottom (not the rubber filter, but the section it was guarding). Got in there with some tweezers and pulled them out, cleaned the filter as suggested, problem solved, no more hissing. Thanks!
