How to start a YouTube channel? How to shoot a YouTube video without expensive gear? For today’s video, Roman decided to dust off his old Canon 600D to see if it can be as good as Sony a7 III we use for our videos. But how do you make an awesome cinematic picture if you can’t afford a top-shelf camera like Sony a7 III?
1. Camera settings
First off, let's check the manual camera settings. To make the background blurry and add depth to the image, we need to set the aperture to F/3.5. A wide open aperture doesn’t require high ISO parameters so let’s lower them to 200. To get the white balance right, we have to take a photo of a piece of white paper and make the camera use this photo as a reference for adjusting the white balance.
2. Studio lighting
It’s quite difficult to get an awesome cinematic picture with just ceiling lights on. So if you want to learn how to create videos like popular YouTubers do you’ll need additional sources of studio light. There are no softboxes within our reach so we’ll set a work light and table lamp as our key light and fill light respectively. Then we have to make a light diffuser from a white blanket to soften the light. What do we need to make the picture even better? Let’s add a couple more small colored lamps to light up the background! Your video lighting is done!
3. Color correction
Cinematic look needs cinematic color grading! One more way to make your shot look better is to use color correction tools while editing a video. So stay tuned to get more tips on how to create videos without expensive equipment!
I hope I was able to prove that, when it comes to video shooting, what matters is your knowledge and skills. So, don't be afraid to make videos even if you don't have an expensive camera.
