The city of New Orleans continues to try to cover up the remains of a deceased worker at the Hard Rock collapse site near Rampart and Canal Streets in what officials say are difficult conditions.

The red tarp that had been covering the body was blown out of place sometime in the past few days, exposing part of the body of one of the workers and horrifying residents who howled on social media in disapproval.

I can’t believe the disrespect for these men. How they can let them sit there and not allow the families to bury them. There is absolutely no reason for them to still be in there. Rescue workers are supposed to take care of this.
Karma will come down on those that are responsible and not doing anything about it!

Two cases in point:

1. Putting a HUGE sail up and tying it off on weakened structure makes no sense! If it's THAT weak, then the tarp will just bring it down! Didn't any of the engineers think about this? And...

2. Bodies left exposed to the elements and winds and weather is going to rot and fall apart! Duh!! Another OOPS!! Even though it's only his legs, it's still body parts that will succumb to gravity!
It's all just so very sad.

A collapse on a 12th floor downtown in Cincinnati ohio just happened. 1 man was buried and the city had crews in working all night, had a tarp but to keep rain from getting in. They got cut through concrete and had him out by morning. I feel awful for those families and I would be ashamed if I lived there . No excuse. I'm outraged for these men and the city

Granted they finally moved out the bodies earlier this year and while I understand the dangers of body recovery in unstable structure but still, 10 months seems bit too long on doing it.

So what you're saying is that you have the ability to go up there to cover the body but don't have the ability to remove him???? The family deserves to bury the family members not to have a tarp cover them for MONTHS. OUTRAGEOUS!

If they could put up tarp to block the poor guy, why couldn't they remove his body? They were that close, it's disgusting!

So when exactly did the first tarp go up? Why are we all just hearing now that they had clearly found one of the missing men months ago, I’m assuming, and told no one until it was revealed now?! And apparently their plan for taking this building down will be “mid to late March” meaning that two families will have had to continue on living with the knowledge that their loved one’s body was dangling off a fucking building FOR HALF OF A YEAR. March will make six months. That body will have been up there for half a year.

If city respected families1:The Remains would have been removed before stupid blowing up cranes/failure 2:Data shows this tragedy was allowed by City step by step, floor by floor=manslaughter. Sad

The fact that ppl are taking pictures or video of the exposed body is nothing compared to the actual tragedy of the way these workers died while doing their job....and the fact that neither The Hard Rock nor the city tried to keep the job site safe and not try to rush...and has done absolutely nothing to get these ppl out. Its a damn shame. RIP to the victims.

So this means they knew where the body was and lied. Everyone thought that they could not locate the body.
Their cheap fix was to just cover it up with a tarp. Not to remove the body.
When people are taking pictures of it, they criticize the people for being disrespectful. " it is not who we are" Who we " not are" is incompetents who would put a tarp on it and do it so incompetently that it would blow off in the wind. That is who you are, government officials.

The criticism belongs on the city for being disrespectful for not doing anything about it, not on the people for exposing their incompetence. Natural curiosity is not "appalling". The fact that government drags it's feet and puts a tarp on it is appalling.
Then instead of removing the body, they put up another tarp. Oh, problem solved. Just cover it up.
And they have to go into/onto the building to do it. Where is the "cherry picker" bucket trucks?
Removing that body should have been priority as soon at is was found.

Those bodies should have been removed the same day. All those people involved should feel so ashamed for allowing their bodies to be treated like that post mortem. With the technology we have that is not acceptable.
