Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew.

The fact that nobody talks about the book Woman’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth, speaks volumes about how people are stuck in a trance

I did the Mary's mini potato diet for 10 days. Potatoes & non starchy veggies I used seasonings & ketchup. I lost 10lbs. I felt great afterwords I don't even crave junk food. I plan to do it again to lose more. I think you have to find a good balance & make sure you prepare them the way you love!.
(Edit) if you wonder if I lost water weight It's been over a month & I haven't gained the weight back. I do eat mostly whole foods now!

Yo I'm almost positive that potatoes took me from yo-yo dieting to consistent and epic weight loss. Super satisfying for long periods of time.

Hey Mic, could you do a video on plant based diets and healthy hair? Are there foods that promote healthy hair, or is all just genetic? I don't think there is any video exploring this issue in any substantial way. Would make for a super interesting video.

Dr John McDougall and his starch solution. 50 to 90% of your plate starch, the rest of the plate veggies. 1-3 pieces of fruit allowed daily. No oil, no animal products. Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are just full. At 60 I lost 70 lbs and have maintained for 4 years.

Heya, when you talk American numbers e.g. pounds and farenheit, it would make my day if you added a little on screen text with converted numbers e.g kilograms and Celsius :)

Keep up the good work!

I so appreciate how you address the topics of weight and eating disorders in videos like these. You always sound so compassionate and it really is helpful for us who are interested in increasing our health but also prone to eating disorders 🙏🏻 Much more helpful than when I was on the durianrider and freelee train. Veganism done poorly can cause eating disorders and less people to want to be vegan again.

THANKYOU. I am realizing potatoes are one of the only foods that do not give me a migraine so I am learning as much as I can.

There is a couple I have been following on YouTube who started their weight loss adventure on a Potato diet (just potatoes for 2 weeks) as a 'reset' and then found WFPB -- great loss. Krocks in the Kitchen. They are a pretty cute couple and offer lots of fat-free vegan recipes.

When I went vegan I made potatoes the main starch in the diet - partly because bread is surprisingly high in sodium, and I had to cut down on salt drastically. On a diet based on potatoes and legumes for starch and protein, I found both contributed to high satiety. And I lost over 40 kg (80 lb) in a year. This diet is literally the only one I was able to stick with for such a long time - mostly because I also replaced processed foods with whole foods.

The reason that the usual weight loss diets fail is that they cut calories while still allowing processed foods, refined foods and convenience foods - just in small portions. But processed and refined foods are depleted of nutrients, and one would have to eat a lot in order to satisfy the body's needs for vitamins and minerals. A whole food plant based diet based on potatoes, sweet potatoes and legumes, with fruit and vegs on top, provides enough calories, protein and micronutrients. And that is behind my own success story.

Spoiler alert:

A whole-food vegan diet is the best for losing weight.

Thanks Mic. Timely post! I've been doing this potato based diet to lose the weight I've put on in lockdown. I do 5 days on and then some different things for the other two days. Just over 3 weeks and 9 lbs comfortably lost and feeling good. I do use legumes though, usually once a day.

"A lot of people think they are from Ireland."

*Stares in offended Dutch.*

Potatoes are practically our national cuisine, with the standard evening meal being an avg'tje (boiled or baked potatoes, meat(replacement) and boiled vegetables) or in winter most often stamppot (mashed potatoes with veggies mashed through and some meat on the side).

Like we do eat a lot of pasta and rice dishes nowadays, but off the top of my head I can't think of any traditional Dutch meals that do not involve potatoes.

"I'm not saying it's aliens, but it's potato aliens." I did an actual spit take at that. Thanks for the laugh.

I noticed that I actually stopped eating potatoes in the last couple years and I gained a fuck ton of weight. I've been stuffing my face with pasta, rice, and bread instead and I think I now know where it all went wrong 🤣

I heard the foods our ancestors ate is what will keep us healthy because it's in our DNA to tolerate certain foods. I'm Russian Ukrainian and potatoes are life lol so I'm gonna try to get potatoes back into my life. I'll keep it simple. I'll boil em, bake them, and throw them into stews. I'll get back here in a month and let you guys know if I've shed any pounds!
