My grandfather told me when he was young and it was times of war and hunger, one quite big family near him ate only potatoes for a year they had grown themselves. They survived just because of that.

I just think it's amazing I've lost over 100 pounds eating starches, vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, seeds, mushrooms, olives, whole plant foods....and I don't limit sugar.

Poor Irish farmers used to live off on potatoes and milk which provided all the nutrients needed to survive. That why the potato famine was so devastating in the 1800s

There is nothing fattening about a potato...It's the stuff you ADD to it that makes it Dr Rachael said, "if I ate potatoes all day, I'd look like a potato." How would she know unless she experimented it herself? Please don't make claims like that unless you have facts to back it up. I challenge Dr Rachael to try it for a month.

Everything in moderation doesn't work for everyone.
If you have a food addiction it seems that eating only rice or only potatoes can dramatically improve your relationship to food, lower your weight & cure many chronic diseases.
The mainstream media are not permitted to openly promote or encourage such approaches because it would seriously damage the junk food industry, the confectionary industry plus massively (excuse the pun) the medical industry.
Imagine millions more people being clear of obesity, chronic diseases, fatigue, tooth decay & cancers.
A far healthier world but also far less profit for those who prey on one's weaknesses & addictions.

these commenters were dismissive af. Notice how the doctor was thanked for his "opinion" and the focus on do what you works for you. Its a veiled way of saying this is weird. The man lost 35 pounds eating one food alone with no health defects. This is amazing. then think about the versatility of the potato. You have fries, chips, hashbrowns, mashed potatoes and the list goes on. They're AMAZING

it was absolutely okey and safe for me . when the doctor asked me to follow only potatoes diet because of my stomach problems it was totally ok for me and I lost weight quickly and in healthy way.

Why Only Potatoes? Because a diet low in protein and low in fat increases metabolic rate (via FGF21) while increasing health & live span (like that of the Traditional Okinawans).

I think people go to "extremes" because the information out there is too confusing. They don't know what to do and what not to do because so many people say different things. So they try one thing for a long time. Nothing wrong with that. If anything it's fool proof. You know what you're having breakfast lunch or dinner. I hear many people say having one thing all the time makes them feel a lot better and makes life a lot easier.

What's important is what Andrew and Dr Mcdougall are saying.. Oil and fat free.... The interviewer said.. "if you eat a healthy diet of whole foods that grow out of the ground you will be doing well" paraphrased..which is exactly what Dr Mcdougall teaches

He never said potato only was the best diet wtf lol he is just trying (and succeeding) to loose weight. Same for Freelee the Banana girl. She never said banana only was the best diet, and she never ever even ate just bananas.

Switch up to a healthy different food every two weeks. Penn Jillette lost 100 pounds... 1/3 of his weight and kept it off. He has a new, healthy lifestyle and is very happily vegan now. He also allows a "cheat day" about every two weeks. I need to lose about 30 pounds I gained due to an illness and am still limping from a broken leg. I'm trying to do what he did before I get any heavier. I'm not used to low activity, but have no choice. I want my clothing to stop shrinking! 😂.
