Ford improved the 2016 model F-150 SuperCab to clinch a good rating in the small overlap crash test, up from the 2015 model’s marginal rating. The F-150 is the only large pickup in the latest test group to earn the Institute’s top rating in the test. It joins the F-150 SuperCrew in earning a 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK award when equipped with Ford’s optional basic-rated forward collision warning system.

The cab strength of the truck didn't change. Ford added what we call cheater bars to deflect the truck off to the side to minimize cab intrusion. The bars was strategically placed to pass this test. Real world isnt a solid barrier. A real world crash can miss this cheater bar, resulting in the same damage as the 2015.

I real live the damage far less because when the are is involved in accident the some energy is transferred to other car (the car which is traveling slow)

Ford failed the crash test with the 97-03 F150, hence the new/old body 05 style which rectified the bad design of the 97-03. So now they have a sold and safe vehicle, what do they do? they build an aluminum beer can that reminds me of the faulty 97-03 design. To save cash and giving you less truck for your money, Im happy that my 2013 5.0 is all steel.
