What is the best truck? There aren't many, but everyone has a strong opinion. To help provide an answer, this time on Face Off we asked
Edmunds editors James Riswick and Dan Edmunds to pick what they thought was the best pickup.

James chose the best-selling Ford F-150. Dan brought a Ram 1500 along with an Airstream trailer to really see which of these equally priced V6-powered pickups was the most capable by towing it up a very steep grade. They also compare cab quality, features and comfort.

Edmunds Face Off: 2 trucks, 2 editors, you decide which 1 wins.

I've owned both F150 and GMC they were both the biggest pile of trouble I owned. Bought a Ram Crew Sport 8 speed Hemi and it's just the best and gets combined 26 MPG. As far as rust they all will if not properly mantained and looked after.

I hate how people say their particular truck is the best and everyone else's trucks suck it's all about preference. Personally I'd drive a dodge over a ford or chevy any day but I don't go around talking shit about everyone else's truck

My 2014 RAM 1500 Quad Cab, 4X4, Hemi is a gem! It gets 20mpg on the interstate and averages about 13mpg around town. I have yet to hook anything to it that it could not pull with ease. And it handles heavy loads in the bed like no pickup I've ever driven or owned before....With possible exception of a Duce-and-a-Half that I drove now and then in the Army (I was a tanker not a truck driver). I grew up driving Fords and until I purchased a 2001 Dodge Dakota with the V-8 Magnum engine I did not know what a real truck was (Chevys and the various Japanese models are not even in the class as either the RAMs or Fords and I've owned several Japanese models and two Chevy/GMC pickups in my time) and will never again buy anything other than a RAM if I ever trade the one I have now!

If you want a good truck, you don't worry about gas mileage

Sorry but when u compare trucks please get the ram with the hemi and the ford with the ecoboost. More people opt for these engines so it will be a better comparison.

In the real world nobody would ever tow a travel trailer with a V6!

I had a Dodge Ram and I was very happy with it.  From an objective point of view, seeing the Ford work as hard as it was towing up hill and the Ram not screaming was a tell-tell sign of which truck is stronger.  Congrats to Ford for selling the most but the masses usually get it wrong.  On the other hand, the RAM has won Motor trend truck of the year 2 years in a row which is first for all trucks.  RAM!

I've had my 97 F150 for years now and only recently have I had some problems with it, that's that it's 2015. From my experience ford seems to be reliable, and it's really all my family uses.

My dad worked in the coal mines of eastern Kentucky for 20 years. His company bought ford trucks and they were turned on in the morning at 3 am and turned off in the night at 8 pm. They were rated for 3 tons in the bes and they would load 6 ton boulders in them and they would still hold up. These trucks were abused daily. They had 20 year old amployees going muddin and off roading in these things and they lasted 400, 000 miles. After those wore out they experimented with Chevy. Lasted 2 years and the transmissions wore out also they had to replace the engines in them many times. No 6 toners in these 3 tom trucks. I'm not even going to talk Bout Toyota. Ford is a work truck and Chevy is a play truck. I'd like to see Chevy do an engine torture test just like ford did on their ecoboost v6. But it won't happen cause Chevy engine sucks!!!!

I just bought a new truck in February. It was between the F150, Ram 1500, and Tundra. In the end I went with the Tundra. It was a really hard decision, but in the end were the deciding factors. I went with the Tundra CrewMax 4.6 SR5 TSS. I really liked both the Ram and F150 though. The Tundra was 4" shorter than the F150, so it fits more easily in my garage. The Ram selection locally cost more comparatively than the Tundra with the same content. Tundra won.

Ram wins on styling alone. Best looking truck ever. And it rides like a magic carpet.

All trucks are similar when it comes to towing and shit...we need to see some RELIABILITY TESTS... Which brands last longer... That's the best truck

Couldn't watch past the V6 part. If I wanted a V6 id buy a Nissan. 2011 Ford F150 with 5.0 combined MPG. 20.5-21 on highway. BETTER than advertised performance. 360HP V8 in a 4x4 super crew cab getting that kind of mileage has far surpassed my expectation. Plus it doesnt run its guts out pulling a load.

I'm so happy to see they both memorized the sellers manuel..lol Who wants a V6 when you can get a V8?

Those base V6s are more than capable of towing. This gen of V6s are just as powerful or slightly more so than the last gen of V8s. Decent power with good torque numbers and they can be used to tow just about anything in their towing range. To say they are only "adequate for carrying the truck's weight" is an insult.

Very clever and technical comeback Thomas. I'm sure people will be impressed with the technical know how you have demonstrated. You should become an engineer for the Nissan Titan. You would fit their standards perfectly. Good luck.
