Unfortunately, I can’t do power naps… they don’t give me a burst of energy… only a splitting headache and the feeling of being disoriented 😢 plus it takes me a long time to fall asleep… I need to SLEEP sleep in order to feel awake and alert.

The shorter the nap I'm attempting the less likely I am to manage it. I get so anxious about not waking up on time (same for early morning wake ups) and the harder it is to relax to fall asleep.

This is spot on. I have experienced all of this. The shorter the nap the better. I used to nap all of the time and had no energy, they were about two hours long, then I would be lazy for the rest of the day.

I wake up at 5am everyday so I tend to have very busy, intensive weekend mornings: hike, clean, groceries, wash... Then nap at 11:30am or 12pm and back to action in early afternoon for the rest of day. Although, I messed up a bit today and woke up at 14:30 after over two hours sleeping :D

Right! Short naps for me are like hitting 'reset' on the computer .

With my old job during lunches I was taking these naps because I used to be 100% work from home. Most of it was from slaving infront of the computer with a super demanding job, and a way to try sleeping off all the troubles a few people there caused me. But that 20-30 minutes was what I needed to mentally and emotionally make it. Totally recommend the naps.

Hi Dr Mark's, I'm new to the channel and am very surprised to see you recommending Mediterranean diet despite data regarding low carb diet effects on mental health. I am not diabetic but carbs have played havoc with my mental health.

i don't understand how to nap. i either immidiately fall into deep sleep stage, either just lay in bed for hours.

I think I only sleep in stage 1 and 2. I have autistic twins that dont sleep so I dont sleep, and when they do sleep, its rarely at the same time. . . Its been 8 years. My brain is full on broken!

When you can't possibly wake up after 1 hour of afternoon nap, only 3 hours minimum, and you don't feel freshed up when waking. Ever.

I seemingly can wake up at any point and be alert What does that say?

Just lie down and don't sleep, after a while you won't feel like sleeping at all
