Problem is, it's hard to control how long I actually fall asleep. It takes a while to fall asleep. An alarm clock set to ring 40 minutes might actually mean I fell asleep after 20 minutes and only got 20 minutes of sleep. And how fast it takes to sleep for me varies a lot.

I don't understand how some people can just choose to take a nap or go to bed. It doesn't work that way for me. And when I am tired enough to take a nap, I can never get up when I wanted to and sometimes end up sleeping all afternoon, then I'm up all night. Fucking sleep!

Makes me wonder why they make 3 year olds nap, but now that we actually want and need them, we aren't allowed to have one at school or work. REPLACE STUDY HALL WITH NAP TIME!!!

But the problem is that I never know how much time it's going to take me to fall asleep. Sometimes I put my alarm on 20 minutes, but it takes me 15 minutes to fall asleep and when it goes off I'm twice as groggy as I was before.

Now i need a tutorial on how to fall asleep fast. If i want to take a 20 min nap, but i have only 40 min, i fail cause i simply can't fall asleep in less than 20 min if i'm just a little tired

This video singlehandedly changed my life when I first saw it a few years back. I come back to it now to give it it's proper accolades. I keep my power naps between 10 and 30 minutes using my phone's timer, usually ballparked around 20-25 minutes, and it just helps! It's so simple and brilliant. I love it.

Thanks for making this easy to understand, informative video. And of course, special thanks as well for providing legitimate sources. I love science.

When I get to nap, I think I usually nap for 30+ mins. When I wake up, I do feel really tired, but after some time I actually feel better than before.

If I say 'science said so' to my teachers, I'll later get a whopping from my mom later.

My newest Granddaughter has taught me this. I call them "Rory" naps. ;) I found that I was napping while she did and I felt more energized when I woke. But, going longer than an hour and it seemed to be much harder to wake. This reminded me of when I was a Firefighter and we had "sleeper duty". If I had been asleep for more than an hour and less than three when the alarm went off, I might not totally wake up until we got to the scene. I woke up once standing on the back of the truck next to a fellow firefighter that had actually tied me to the hand rail! :D

When I first started napping I found myself sleeping for around 2 - 3 hours which of course is far 2 much. However the key to doing it right is to get your full 7 hours. Once you've established a good solid night sleep routine your day nap will just fall into place. I take a day nap every day and usually wake up between 20 minutes and half an hour of sleeping. This is the best I've ever felt in my life. No wonder most animals take naps.
