Jon Kabat-Zinn guides you through the mindfulness meditation for pain relief - an audio excerpt from the full two CD program.

If you're reading this, chances are that your life, or the life of someone you know, is shaped by pain—and by the physical and emotional suffering that usually accompany it.

- Mindfulness of breathing—how to “put out the welcome mat” for whatever arises in one's experience
- What to do about pain—how to work with intense and unwanted sensations
- Working with thoughts and emotions—how to avoid identifying with your experience of pain and instead see sensations and thoughts as sensations and thoughts
- Resting in awareness—a three-minute mindful pause to restore balance, resilience, and self-compassion
- Mindfulness in everyday life—allowing the nitty-gritty of one's daily life to be both the ultimate meditation teacher and the real meditation practice
-
The good news: Jon Kabat-Zinn and his colleagues have helped thousands of people learn to use the power of mindfulness to transform their relationship to pain and suffering, and to discover new degrees of freedom for living with greater ease and quality of life. Now, with Mindfulness Meditation for Pain Relief, the man who brought mindfulness into mainstream medicine presents these approaches for working gently and effectively with even the most trying of circumstances.

What I like about this guided meditation is the that he doesn't use the creepy "whispering voice" that a lot of other meditation leaders do.

Personally I have found this program really effective. I have both M.E. and Fibromyalgia, and you simply wouldn't believe the amount of medication I am on for pain alone! When even morphine is not working, this does help in coping better with pain. Obviously this isn't going to cure me, but it certainly helps me live better with pain.

I've had this for around 4 years now and it is my go-to tool. You have to persevere with it and practice. From my experience, you get out of it what you put in.

I sat here listening to him with my mind so concentrated on the areas he said that everything went black and I felt virtually no pain. I loved the feeling.

When Jon says at 4:35: "even for the briefest of moments to turn toward that place"...He means the place where it hurts?, he means the pain itself !? I though I haven't heard right ! I though at first he would have said to turn AWAY from the pain...anyway.. I thought we want to go away from the pain, to forget it, etc., and not precisely to delve into it! ( anyway...I wonder ...what to do when you have a painful anxiety and depression ? ... sometimes when the anxiety is low and depression too..it's ok but when it's more Is it this approach to some levels of pain ...emotional, phisical or both, realistic? ( if somebody cares to replie and give me a wider view on that I'd appreciate )

Chronic extreme insomnia: can think of nothing as debilitating and self-reinforcing. Does chronic pain approach apply to this?

This is only a small part of it. Does anyone know the name of the particular CD that this is from?

There are a lot of people why just doing business on chronic pain patients. In my experience this is one of them. Generic reviews, need to buy (and read?) additional books aren't these just examples of "just business". You do hurt real people.
