I prefer sleeping to doing. Based on my experience, the body requires movement, which is unfortunate.

I love my hobbies and passions, but many times I just say that I don’t feel like doing something relating to those hobbies due to being physically exhausted.

I don't feel like doing anything because I get paralyzed by the idea that clock's ticking and eventually I'll _have to_ do something - if not anything else, to go to the bed.

I had actually figured this one out on my own, when I would frequently find myself feeling physically fine but emotionally overwhelmed and like I couldn't manage anything in that state. It was more extreme for me though, at worst on some days I would just sit in bed because I knew I was feeling terrible. Thankfully I'm finally getting over that depression, so hopefully in time it will just be a bad memory.

I appreciate that this connection was made between emotion and identity.

finishing the connection here, i assume the full video discusses that the reason for “i don’t feel like it” comes from a negative emotional response after perceiving yourself as someone who can’t do the thing. or at least, that’s what i assume based on my own experiences as someone who perpetually “doesn’t feel like it”

the solution? beats me.

Currently experimenting with my seemingly irrational reasons for not doing things. I really try to find the moment it happens.
The moment i reject the act.
Think back to it and try to identify what I was feeling, honestly.
Then i try to find a why, no matter how stupid the actual why might be and i write it down. Im not doing this with an attitude of fixing the problem. Because how am i going to fix the problem and in what way, if i dont even know quite literally, "wassup"?

Im sure this takes practice.
Remember, practice does not make perfect. Prefect practice makes perfect.

Compasionately ask yourself how you feel about it, but dont pressure yourself into giving yourself an answer.

It comes down to your self-talk! Your perception of yourself! The way you view yourself. And the simple way you view your OWN self determines EVERYTHING about how you will project into the world, everything on the scale of insecurity/confidence as well as emotional state and definitely what your emotional state is like in response to a task.

Idk if anyone else will be able to relate to this but just recently I found out I have PMDD. Premenstrual dysmorphic disorder. Basically my serotonin levels are impacted much more than they should be because of hormonal changes. For two whole weeks before my period starts, I lose interest in everything I used to enjoy. And once my period comes, everything goes back to normal. My emotional response to things because I’m female, heavily relies on my hormonal changes. There’s more to it of course like symptoms of depression, as well as physical changes, during this two week period but if you’re a female and you’ve noticed that maybe this is a monthly occurrence, it might be your hormonal changes causing these feelings. There is treatment! I’m on medication now. Maybe worth looking into

Hence why actors are so good at embracing different identities and taking action in those roles as if they truly were that character. We have to apply the same principle and essentially hypnotise ourselves into who we want to be by thinking, feeling and doing the things that ideal version of ourselves would. 💯

Lol, depends on what it is, but often times I have found out that even if my response is I don't feel like it but I follow it up with, "*sigh* OH WELL, DOESN'T MATTER, GET UP AND DO IT ANYWAYS! HA!" and kinda make myself do a little tiny spring-jump upwards and stand up, feet shoulder width apart and hands on my hips, in superhero pose/stance... I kinda feel this hearty "ha ha! Let's do this!" kinda vibe and imagine myself as a silly lil superhero swooping in to tackling a task. And this helps me stay feeling awesome about doing anything, especially small stuff that is super easy to endlessly put off til way later.

What about executive function? If it decides what needs to be done then we can choose to align our emotions with it. But without executive function, without that guiding decision, it is difficult to rally our emotions to the task.

I literally love the spiritual- psychology hybrid perspective you're able to hold.

Emotions are a response. Listen to, thank it for the input, and move on best you can.
