In recent years, South Dakota has experienced a significant influx of newcomers from all over the country. But what is driving this migration to the heartland? Here is a hint, it isn't just the real estate prices.
In this video, we explore the reasons why people from other states are moving to South Dakota in record numbers.

We look at the state's thriving economy, which is attracting businesses and entrepreneurs alike. South Dakota has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation and boasts a business-friendly environment with no personal or corporate income tax.
We also examine the state's low cost of living, which is particularly appealing to retirees and those looking to escape the high costs of living in larger cities. South Dakota offers affordable housing, lower utility costs, and lower overall expenses.

Do you need a local Realtor for the area you want to move to?

My wife and I moved from Las Vegas, NV to Sioux Falls, SD last Fall, and we haven’t looked back. Very happy with our decision so far

On my way to Montana and on my way home from Montana, I drove through that beautiful and friendly state, I felt like family and got treated very nice. One of the best states I've ever been to. God bless you South Dakota 🙏

I am a life long South Dakotan. Served my military. Love my Country and State. I want to greet these new people to my state. Just please don't ruin it for the next generation. Let's not tax more, regulate more, our poo poo the way we do things.

Lived in South Dakota for two years, best people I have ever had for neighbors in my entire life and I have lived A LOT of places. Was in a small college town, no traffic, no crime to speak of. Amenities were somewhat limited but had enough to comfortably get by. Summers are gorgeous, sunny & green, pleasantly warm (hot!). Just loved it…. But winter? Oy. It wasn’t the cold, if you have proper gear (we did) then you’ll be fine. But the snow was unrelenting and the work it created was exhausting. Winter seemed like it would never end and everyone became shut-Ins except for a short chat while shoveling snow for the 5th time in two days. I just couldn’t deal with it anymore, so we moved. If it weren’t for that, I could’ve stayed for a long time. Loved the people and what they represented- the hard-working, conservative American values I sure miss these days!

Hey, I misspoke when I said fargo. I was thinking of Pierre but for some reason I said Fargo. The Sioux Falls/Sioux City was a "gotcha joke" but Fargo was a brain freeze and none of us picked up on it.

Minnesotans are also leaving for SD due to politics. Minnesota has become extremely leftist in the vein of Washington, Oregon, and California.

I will now pray for the people in South Dakota. California, Illinois, Washington, Colorado, what a mess for SD

Imagine the air temperature at -10F. Then that air traveling sideways at 40MPH. That's for 4 months straight. Then in the Summer it's scorching hot and humid with mosquitoes, ticks and biting horse flys that just left the pig farm fecal settling pool the size if a football field that you can smell for miles. That's the rural Upper Midwest. Stay where your from. We're full!

Shout out to Rapid City and Keystone. Mount Rushmore, Kuster State Park, Badlands Cedar Pass Lodge. Interesting area out there. Great scenery.

It may also have something to do with the fact that SD Governor Kristi Noem was the only Governor that refused to implement Draconian statewide lockdown policies because of Covid. Americans kinda like their freedoms. Also, because they avoided mass shutdowns, SD was one of the quickest states to recover financially. They remain either first or tied for first in lowest per capita unemployment rates.

Most popular state for full-time RVers to register their vehicles and have a domicile now, but they rarely go there.

@8:03 - I think you misspoke here. Fargo is in NORTH Dakota.

Many people (ourselves included) “move” to South Dakota because of the lack of state income taxes. SD makes it very easy to declare residency without actually physically living there. We are expats living outside of the USA. Many full time travelers (RVers, boaters, etc) also have SD residency. It would be interesting to know how many of the new residents actually live in SD.

I was forced to live in Washington State (withing smelling distance of Seattle) for my job, and I swore that the day I retired I was leaving! Three days after I retired from the phone company, I was in my car headed for South Dakota! Been there ever since. Never going back to the PNW, or any other liberal state.

Best three summers of my life were college years living in the Black Hills of South Dakota. There really are two South Dakotas. The Black Hills and The Rest. Anyway, while I'm here, this video reminds me of a time in the late 1980's when North Dakota was batting around the idea of changing the name of the state. They thought, "North Dakota" sounded too cold and remote. So, the newspaper in Billings, Montana had a contest for people to rename the state. My favorite entry: Barren Rectangle. (With apologies to my relatives in Grand Forks.)

Born and raised for my 7 earliest years of life in South Dakota. Our dad moved us from South Dakota to MInnesota in the 1970’s for higher paying wages. It’s true back then and still true today. But, the main reason most MInnesotans are moving to South Dakota is due to the bad political environment in MInnesota compared to South Dakota. How do I know this? I have asked many, many MInnesotan’s what their reasons for moving out to South Dakota from MInnesota was and every single answer was either due to the bad political atmosphere in MInnesota or that South Dakota was a bit warmer on average in the Winter months. Never once heard anyone comment on cheaper living or for better pay reasons to move to South Dakota. Taxes are also much better in South Dakota than MInnesota, particularly since Governor Walz took office here in MN. It’s a disaster here.
