Wow, after almost 8K deliveries, I just had something happen for the 1st time. A customer chose "hand it to me" in the app but in the comments typed "leave it at the door". So I left it at the door, but still took a photo of it. Later found out the customer lied and reported it as "undelivered" even though he had exited his house and grabbed it. I had plenty of photo evidence along with a good explanation and Doordash did not penalize me in any way. Customers who abuse the system in this way should also be deactivated and not allowed to order anymore! Some people are such slimeballs.

I use a formula when delivering, 6-4-20 (No less than $6, no more that 4 miles, and complete within 20 mins). When I use this formula, I make no less than $18 per hour, 98% of the time it's more than that.

You are 100% right about not needlessly communicating with customers. I would say 95%+ use the app specifically because they want as little human interaction possible to get their food. Especially the 30 and under age range. I am a delivery ninja, a ghost in the machine. I wont contact a customer unless I absolutely cannot find their residence and that is super rare in my market. I know some dashers think sending updates and even memes is being nice and "customer service", but DD customers dont want all those needless alerts. They want their food, not a jolly chat. Im a phantom, make the drop and on to the next lol

The biggest and best tip for new people is dont be scared to decline. Decline as many as you have to. NEVER accept an order with no/low tip. Youre paying out of your own pocket to deliver someone elses food.

Thank you for confirming that acceptance rate doesn't matter. On my first week I was really picky and only accepting offers over $8 and I was making good money and offers were even getting better. On my second week I lowered my bar a bit to keep my acceptance rate high and the app kept sending me worse offers. It's almost like the app gives the worst offers to drivers who are desperate and willing to accept anything.

This guy will be successful no matter what he does. Great work ethic and doesn’t get hung up on the not so great moments of the job. Great video. Thanks for posting

I've done 7, 300 deliveries in the last 2 and a half years, and what I've come to realize is that the business is drastically different when comparing urban/metro areas to the suburbs. Variations in population and order density requires that you change your strategy based on where you are. Advice you hear may be from someone who does it in a different type of area, so don't be surprised if you don't get the same results.

The $2 per mile is a good rule because extra wear and tear and added maintenance needs to be factored in, not just gas.

I’ve done about 750 dashes… and what I’ve found makes the best $$$ is $2/mile minimum. I reject most offers and have an acceptance rate of only 27%. I make $20-30/hour. Area is pretty key, as well as time of day. I rock the suburbs around Columbus, OH. Good luck to all you dashers out there! Drive safe!

I’ve dashed for a total of 4 hours 30 minutes and got 110 so far. Definitely because I was on the “accept every order” flow and because I thought top dasher gives you perks (only need 70% to stay a top dasher) but now I’m going to only accept good orders. Thought this to myself today after I handed off a chipotle delivery to this rude customer who didn’t tip me and I only made 5 bucks off the 3 mile drive… seriously I get it that times are tough and people have less disposable income to spend but come on…… you wouldn’t not tip at a dine in restaurant why wouldn’t you tip the guy who went out of his way to deliver the food to you…. On the other hand, I got a 14 dollar delivery with a 9.50 tip which was definitely nice.

For anyone wondering I’m in Jersey - the average hourly drive pay is $25-$26 an hour. I literally live right around the corner from a busy highway with every single restaurant fast food and otherwise. Why wouldn’t I dash? Best of luck everyone and thank you Best Dasher for the informative vid to help us N00bz :)

For texting people, you’re half right. Communicate If there’s a long wait n stuff. I’ve gotten tips and ratings because people felt bad for me waiting so long

Appreciate the tips man. I work every day with my grandfather doing landscaping and construction work for about 10 hrs a day and then I get home and shower and head out to deliver. Just started a few weeks ago and for 2 hours a night I'm able to reel in about 50 bucks total after gas costs (which in my truck is a lot). But it's a good side gig that's a lot more relaxing than the heavy work I do during the day. Just hope working 70 hrs a week allows me to actually foot the bill for college :/. Have a good one!

In some places, it is absolutely worth it to be a top dasher. It really depends on your market and if you are constantly thrown bad orders. I make about $150 a day 7 days a week with just doordash. I do lunch from 9:30am to 11:30am and then I go out for dinner from 5:30pm to 11:30pm. Sometimes I hit my $150 mark a lot sooner and head home earlier, but that is usually the average. I do notice a difference with the top dasher, it is better here for sure. But that is not the case everywhere. The best thing you can do to make the most money with Doordash or uber or whatever is to keep trying different things and accept that it will not be steady all of the time but by the end of the week/month it will balance out pretty much every time.

For me, I find success from accepting orders no less than $6 within 3 miles. 3 miles. I recently started paying attention to the route it shows on the map, I never looked to see if it was in my “area” so I’ll start doing that because that would save way more gas and time!! That was probably the best tip I got from this video.

About the overcommunicate with customers part, I have noticed the ones who wants to communicate with delivery driver the most are the high tippers. Sometimes they are waiting at the door and would greet you

as soon as youre 3 - 5 minutes from making a delivery, turn on uber eats. switch back and forth with DD ideally, so that your wait time at the restaurants is as low as possible, and youre getting the most offers to consider possible.

Started today racked in 113.25 in 6 hours and 5 minutes. I should have started this much sooner, thanks for the tips!

I agree with everything besides not worrying about the tip. I’ve noticed non tippers are the ones that are most likely to report you for free food. Great video!
