What I like about this cast-on is that you don't have to figure out how much yarn to use as you do for the long-tail cast-on. Thank you for showing how to pull out the loop. My knitting book did not show that step, but it should make it so much easier to do the knitted cast-on. I appreciate all your slow motion videos as well as the regular ones.

Once again, extremely helpful and very clearly worded and shown. As someone who doesn't have a LYS or any local knitting friends, I would not be able to knit without your helpful videos. Thanks!

When you pull the loop through, be sure to "pull it long" like Staci says to do, because it makes working the rest of the stitch easier. Don't worry about any slack at that point, because you can tighten the new stitch after it gets on the left needle.
I have not used this knitted cast-on since I was in Girl Scouts long ago, working on badges. I began knitting again in 2004 and have used the long-tail cast-on since then. But now I'm glad to relearn the knitted cast-on. Thanks, Staci for this helpful video.

I'm still a newbie knitter, and this is the cast-on I prefer using over long-tail. I find, when I do long-tail, my yarn starts to unravel. Also, on a side note, a little 9 yo girl bumped into me in a Hobby Lobby while I was getting some yarn and she wanted to learn to knit. She asked me if I knitted. I said yes, but was a newbie also. I did a very impromptu knitting lesson for her and showed her how to do the knitted cast-on and how to knit & purl. I let her mother know about your Youtube & website and used my phone to show her the videos.

I just stumbled across your channel and love it. You explain things so simply and in a way that makes so much sense, instead of making it complicated. Thank you!

Thanks! I watch this same video every time I decide to start a new project (after a long time away) and forgot how to do the knitted cast on. Nice, simple and clear instructions. You rock!

I love this for casting on the final few stitches if my tail runs out❣️

This is the only cast on I do, and to make it faster I never remove the right needle from the back of each stitch until the very last stitch is cast on. I find it is very streamlined and fast if I just do that continuous motion. But then again, this is how I learned, so I guess everyone has their preference.

My grandmother taught me the long tail method over 30 years ago, thank you for this video showing me a different way! :)

Gary - there are a few things you can do here. First, you can just cast-on in one color, then start your color changes in the first row. Second, you can hold the two strands of yarn together when you CO the last orange stitch and the first yellow stitch. Or, third - you cast on in the correct colors, without connecting them in any way, and understand that they will be connected on the first row. Good luck!

I used to only use the long tail, but now have found the knitted cast-on to be much faster, and nicer looking, I like a commenter below, never take my right needle out either, it goes way faster. Happy knitting :)

I use this cast on all the time. However, instead of taking my needle out at the end of each stitch, I leave it in and just start the next one, since you end up in the knit position anyway. (It helps to loosen my already tight cast on too.) love your videos. They really help add to the information I'm getting from my Mom, who is an avid knitter.

Thanks, I usually do a crochet cast on or for socks.. the Norwegian twisted cast on that I learned from watching one of your videos!!

I do that cast on all the time. Except I don't twist the yarn before putting it back on the left needle. I just slip it back onto the left needle and knit the required stitches. Love your videos, especially the buttonhole and kitchen scrubbie pad ones. thank you for posting such clear and wonderfully detailed videos. I might try crocheting next.

Not a fan of this cast on as a knitted CO noob, so this was very helpful. Thanks so much for the tutorial!

I've been doing this cast on for a good number of years now, but just googled it because I had a brainfart of if there also were other "knitted" cast ons to the one I know, and I don't think there are, but also I haven't been twisting the stitches when I take them off the right needle, and I'm wondering what difference that makes, please and thank you?

Thanks for this! I am following a pattern that calls for a knitted cast-on and I was wondering what the benefits are, or if it matters....I too prefer the long-tail cast on and I thinking they're about the same in terms of outcome.
