Nothing really to do with cable stitches - the cable cast-on creates a fairly stiff, non-stretchy beginning to your work.

LisaR- It's interesting that I've been knitting since Kindergarten, yet I hadn't used Cable cast on in years.. I can think of several times I should have ;) Your videos are the "Gold Standard "for Knitting techniques, in my opinion. I truly appreciate how You deliver the verbal & visual content with consistent clarity. It's a gift to the entire community. Thank you ! ❤❤❤

I always use this cast on - tip - before you pull the yarn tight, put your needle behind the stitch, then pull the yarn tight. ❤❤ Taught at Junior school when I was 9yrs old many decades ago.

Like many others have said, if I’m looking for a video to learn a knitting technique, if your name shows up, you are my go-to. I also recommend your videos often to other knitters. Thank you for your help!

Exactly what I needed! Thank you for always getting right to the point! I also appreciate you explaining why this method might be called for. That was helpful.

Thank you for this video. I do have a pattern that calls for this cast on. I knew you would probably have it. You are one of my Go To's for any knitting I have questions about.

Cable cast on is my usual - I use it for everything. My mother taught it to me when I was 6, and I didn't know there was another until I was 66. It can be flexible and stretchy if you don't pull it tight, and I find it nice and fast, too

Thank you, Staci! I keep hoping to find one of your videos when I Google a particular knitting technique, because I know they're always good, well-explained, and succinct, without lots of unnecessary fluff.

I record video tutorials (not on knitting, sadly) for work and your videos are exactly what a good video should be.

Thank you for your tutorial podcasts. I’m a newbie knitter and when I get stuck on a stitch you are the first place I look for help. Keep up the great job.

Thank you for your videos. Since I knit with the yarn in my left hand it's much easier for me to do this cast-on with a crochet hook. Just an idea for other "continental" style knitters. Your video taught me to twist the stitch before putting it on the needle... will try that next time! Thank you!

Thank you! I am beginning a Project that says this cast on isn't essential; but since this kind of cast on was mentioned, I figured it must be preferred. I KNEW that you would know!

I just want to offer a tip: when I do this cast on, I put the right hand needle in place then tighten the yarn. That way you don't have to force the tip into place.
