// HOW TO KNIT: A FREE BEGINNER SERIES //

In this video, I’ll show you how to cast on knitting like a pro! This is the thumb method cast on. If you have no idea what that means - no worries! Just know that it’s an easy and super useful cast on that both beginners and old hands use all the time.

So, you’ve got needles and a ball of yarn. Cool! Now you want to knit something. But how do you get the yarn onto your needles?

Say hello to the cast on!

Casting on is a way to turn loose yarn into neat stitches that can be knit. It’s the first step in knitting. All you need is some yarn and needles.

What needles and yarn should you use?

I always recommend a chunky yarn and correspondingly thick needles for beginners because they’re much easier to grip. In this tutorial, I’m using Lion Brand’s Hometown USA and 8mm bamboo needles.

You’ll find tutorials and guides for making a Slipknot, Cast On, Knit Stitch and Cast Off. These techniques form a sturdy foundation in knitting.

I literally almost cried I learned how to do the cast on method in under 30 minutes. I have autism so this was a big accomplishment for me. I found discounted yarn at Walmart for 71 cents. Thanks for the upload

The way you repeat every step is soooo helpful, you go so slow and it makes it so easy to follow. Thank you ❤

Thank you so much! My mom had a stroke a couple of months back and she's struggled to get back into knitting & crocheting. She had so many beautiful projects going before the stroke. She watched this video and the beginning knitting one this evening and she was off knitting again. I cannot fully express how big a desk this is.
Thank you

I'm not a beginner - I've knitted loads of scarves. I'm here because I keep forgetting how to cast on every single time xD

I'm 13 yrs old and my mum called me an old lady for picking up knitting as my new hobby aha! xD I like it though, it's really calming and it helps with my adhd a bit 😌✨ Remember hobbies are for everyone, no matter your age! Just give it a go and try your personal best at it! You've got this everyone :D♡

This is the BEST video I seen for casting on stitches. It's really close up, clear and concise. I can't wait to start knitting! Thank you!

This is my third time trying to knit. Mum taught me as a child (I did the stitches though, I didn’t cast on), once in 2019, and now in 2022. I’ve become much more comfortable with crochet, and now I think I’m ready to attempt knitting again. Thanks for this easy and fun tutorial!

I have struggled to learn how to knit and crochet and I decided to try again to help with anxiety to be able to lower my meds. As well and not think of pain from other issues. This is the most clear I have seen so far. I made it past one or two stitches without wanting to quit!

someone who knows how to cast on without tying peoples hands and brains in a KNOT!!!!
You are only the second person I have found on YouTube to use this so simple and easy THUMB method...
This THMB is how my grandmother taught me as a she was an avid knitter and crocheter all her adult life, won many prizes for her work... I sit and watch all those complicated methods and shake my head, why would you cast on any other way than the THUMB method

Wow! A video that actually shows you in "slow motion" how to knit as an actual "know nothing" beginner. Most other tutorial videos go waayyy too fast for us true beginners. Kudos for making this so easy to follow and repeating the steps slowly so we can actually follow along without having to drop our yarn and pause the video 20x, lol. Well done! I have subscribed and will be watching all your videos so I can learn to knit.

My grandma taught me how to knit when I was very young, but now, 20 years later, I need a bit of a refresher on the basics. This video was so helpful- it was just what I needed to jog my memory of this skill I once had. Thank you so much for sharing!

Goodness this is the only video I've found that actually simplifies the process down to where I can actually understand the steps when it comes to knitting

Omg, after watching so many tutorials for beginners on how to start a cast on. They were either to fast or complicated. But your tutorial was precise, slow, and to the point. Thank you so much, you helped me big time. These other bloggers need some tips from you😊❤
