The rule of thumb is never let a mistake go unrepeated. Repetition legitimizes may be a meme but it's golden advice as well.

I once jokingly criticized a friend for getting into Jazz music, with the classic jab, "it's just playing the wrong notes." He hit me back with the best line I've ever heard, "yes, but you have to play the wrong notes at the right time."

The "mistakes" were the best part! Screw the butternotes and give me that sweet dissonance <3

I had a choral director who used to say, "The audience can forgive a wrong note, but they will notice if you're off-rhythm." Or something like that.
A wrong note can always be passed off, usually, but if you get off rhythm its a little harder to make that sound right.

Some classical musicians are gonna say that there was no difference between the mistake and the rest of the song, (as an insult) I can't tell either but it sounds good xD

“Let’s start off simple” I’m sorry, what?

ngl this video singlehandedly has more life lessons than anything a father figure can offer

your mistakes sound good the first time if you play them with rhythmic conviction. A mistake in time is fine, a mistake out of time throws the whole vibe off, trust me i used to be the one doing it.

I listened without watching first and I genuinely heard nothing wrong

No matter what happens, the lick will always be there for you.

Also very nice

To quote my teacher: you can play every wrong note in the universe. As long as you resolve it in the end they're all right notes.

this happens so often i think this is how jazz came about. a bunch of people repeating mistakes that turned into beautiful the more we heard it. appreciate your mistakes, they could one day become a jazz technique

Slow clap. These are things that I’ve been saying in my head during solos for so long. I tell people I’ve built up “Sonic Equity” that my mistakes don’t sound like mistakes anymore. Lol. Twist ending…they’re still mistakes. Lol

imo "mistakes" are the best part. The dissonance is what makes it interesting.

This is honestly like the most succinct demonstration of jazz I've ever seen. The first screwup is a mistake, the repeat is jazz. lol

i listened to this without looking at the screen and absolutely couldn't tell where the mistake was
