Great tips. I like the one of dipping the vial in RO water before wiping. And ok I will buy the lint free cloth. String the vial in RO water is also a great idea 👍

As someone who is colorblind the Hanna checkers are really the only solution out there.

I use the Hanna salinity checker which also has a thermometer. An excellent way to quickly and easily verify your refractometer and your thermo controller/probe

Another excellent video - adding to it re: Hanna thermometer - it's also good for checking Apex temp probe accuracy. Trust me, after time they DO need to be checked and recalibrated.

When going from 1 reagent to the next, its always good to check the same sample against both. I usually know when I'm down to my last 3-5 test, which is when I'll usually break out the new reagent and see if there's a difference. I've never had a huge difference between the 2, but know afew reefers who have, which is why I always check just in case. You can call that tip 12 👉

I have to test phosphates daily since my phosphates drop to 0 constantly. I always see you guys talking about high phosphates but i see some people struggling with the opposite lol

I’m so glad I got a Hanna temp checker. My apex temp prob just recently started to creep up. It got to 3+ degrees above actual. It won’t stay calibrated. I’ll lower back to actual(using Hanna)but it only takes a day or so for it to creep back up. If I didn’t have my ink bird and Hanna to reference to I would have never known.
FYI ink bird and Hanna are only .1 degree different from each other.

I HATE trying to figure out if the color is one vs another most of them look exactly the same to me or they are so close I can’t really tell, and it always looks different in different light but witch light do I trust? This is why is use the checkers because when you think about it it’s actually MORE accurate since you don’t have to discern color differences you take that part of human error out of the equation

I LOVE the url phosphate and alk! I dont chek calcium or mag as much as I should so was thinking of buying these for calcium and mg! I hate red seas test and hate titrating tests in general! How easy are the mag and calcium? I am surprised you didint recommend the hanna salinity checker! I love mine and it doubles as a temperature checker! It makes water changes so much easier and also matching the temp at the same time! I cant ever imagine going back to a refractometer!

Just put your bottles in the dishwasher! We at the lab do it also and it cleans the best than other methods!!

I just watched you rant on a recent video about calcium checker. You're using that microliter pipet wrong. You need the tip to go on it, and then you put the tip just under the surface of the water and push down to the first resistance level and draw back up. Water lever should hit the second line on the pipette tip. Then push down to the first and then second pressure level on the plumger to get every last bit out of the tip.

I looked at the ammonia checker and noticed it’s “freshwater”. Do they make a saltwater ammonia checker or is there a way to convert the freshwater one to saltwater?
