I would like to point out as someone diagnosed with borderline personality disorder that not every person with this diagnosis is aggressive. There is a branch known as "quiet borderline" (like mine) doesnt is implosive and not explosive.

As someone diagnosed with BPD, it’s more than just mood swings. you constantly overthink, always assume people are judging you, you jump to conclusions waaay to fast, if someone’s tone SLIGHTLY changes it makes you switch moods instantly but once you know they’re fine you feel immense guilt and go back to laughing it off. I’ll have guilt for the rest of my life for the way I’ve always treated my parents. I throw meltdowns nearly daily over the tiniest of tiny things, my dads even given me the nickname “5 year old” because I whine and act like a toddler who couldn’t get a toy over very small things. It’s hard to keep relationships because you lack trust in everyone, and once you find someone you get codependent and obsessed with them but once you’re finally with them you second guess yourself and try to gaslight yourself into thinking you don’t have feelings for them. everyone thinks you’re entitled and or lazy, and everyone just assumes you’re a bad person or a Karen. STOP WANTING THIS SHIT ITS NOT CUTE

BPD is usually misinterpreted. This video is another classic case of that. It’s has a lot to do with problems of emotional regulation and your self identity, not so much aggressiveness or risky behavior but the emotional experience is what fuels things like that, so not everyone with it will have those traits.

I find the schizotypal personality disorder the most difficult to wrap my head around. At what point do strange beliefs become a disorder? Once they are compulsive? Many geniuses would then fall into that category.

I was diagnosed with BPD 20 years ago as a teenage. Spent my whole life fighting BPD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

Hey, diagnosed Schizoid here. I just want to give my two cents. For one, thank you for not just flat out saying we're totally incapable of having friends or meaningful relationships. People often act like we're not able to form any kind of bond, when we are. I, for example, have a nice romantic relationship and friends who I'd fight for. It's just that I don't feel motivated to make new friends and I simply don't attach to a vast majority of people who talk to me. I don't generally want to go make friends with people, and I spend a lot of my time alone, which I'm content with. A lot of our behavior stems from our emotional detachment. The disorder as a whole is largely based in apathy and being emotionally detached.

Now, as for my experience, I don't really feel a "need" to treat my SPD. It's as you said in the video, I'm honestly fine with myself the way I am. It does hamper some of my abilities to understand other people, but overall I don't mind it. My SPD was most likely caused by severe parental abuse (verbal and physical) I went through during some of my childhood and throughout my teens, as I can trace a lot of my Schizoid-related tendencies back to it. For example, I was punished for showing emotion, so I learned to not show it, and over time it lead to me simply not feeling it as one normally would.
I almost always feel like an outsider looking in when it comes to society, as though there's a thick glass wall between me and them. A glass wall through which I can see and hear them, but simply can't get close or make contact. There are a number of other traits we exhibit which you didn't mention (understandably so since this is kind of a rapid-fire video), but you got the main point of what SPD is across well, and I appreciate your unbiased yet empathetic outlook on all of these disorders. A lot of people are quick to jump to conclusions that are incorrect.

.. Not sure that a 50 Shades of Gray character is the best thing to compare us to though, haha. Honestly, I think comparing fictional characters to personality disorders as a whole isn't a very good idea, since it can give people false pretenses about these disorders.

*I wonder how often a personality disorder really causes problems for people and how often it's their environment who don't understand those people and just see them as "weird".*

I have an opposing view on Cinderella being the example for dependent personality disorder. She’s actually quite independent and resourceful. Despite being abused and mistreated for years by her step family, she developed many healthy coping mechanisms to escape that hardship and made her own decisions to escape her household where she was basically enslaved. She simply hoped for freedom and grew as a person despite living in a toxic environment. It is true that she does depend on her animal friends, but that does not mean that she is not capable of doing thjngs on her own, as she does everything she can to survive in the hands of her abusive family. She is a survivor that used her resources and created a support group full of those that could help her and she ultimately fought against her family to live her own life.

Just remember that even though stereotypes about personality disorders may make them seem scary, most of the time people with pds are not dangerous or scary or bad people. They deserve your kindness above all.

Now let’s talk about the link between Borderline Personality Disorder and Complex PTSD

I'm really glad you differentiated between Bipolar and Borderline. I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar a couple of years ago, and it led to multiple stays in the psych ward because my therapy was about bipolar, and not borderline.

Can't speak for the other ones, but having bpd myself: it's so much more than you described

last year I was diagnosed with schizoid. Honestly I am glad for that. Knowing that you are completely okay with not having any relationship with anyone is really a bliss.

As someone with BPD, it is important to know that this personality disorder often leads to other mental condition such as repetitive depression or anxiety disorders, sometimes even dissociation. Seeking help can really be useful to someone with this condition. Even if you're too young to be diagnosed, just having the help for your tough exeperiences might really help you.

I've been diagnosed with multiple different personality disorders in my life. My ex girlfriends psychiatrist labeled me as borderline when she didn't even meet me in person. Another psychologist diagnosed me as personality disorder not otherwise specified after meeting me for 5 minutes. I used to think I was antisocial and psychopathic because I have a lack of empathy and emotions. But I have finally learned I'm schizophrenic and now I'm on the right medication.

I am diagnosed with DPD. It is very difficult to function at work because of my fear of messing up tasks. If im not given a specific checklist of things to do, i get upset and anxious and even if i have a list i need coworkers to assure me that im doing the tasks correctly. I work at mcd and even though im shy, working at the counter is my favorite position because all i need to do is listen to what the customer wants, and then push some buttons. Its important to me that im told what to do and given instructions, but also constantly reminded of them. Along side this i have anxiety about bothering people and my need for instruction combats my need to not be a burden. All this coupled with the fact i have anxiety about being away from my mom and my home makes working difficult and i kind of wish i could explain this to others so that they understand. Thanks for reading :3
