In this video, I sew an eye in some rope with 2oz twine. But before I get to sewing, I find out the breaking strength of the twine so I know how many stitches I have to make.

This is ingenious, I recommend it highly.

For hand sewing like this I recommend buying a sailor's palm--money well spent since it saves your hands and makes the process easier.

Thanks for showing this technique. Could you clarify what you meant in the the stitch number calculation when you said based on the stitches/thread “inside and outside the rope”? It would also be helpful to see the final whipping. But thanks again!

Thank you for the instructional, it’s good guidance for making my own prusik cords that can double for Distel hitches. Can you speak to specific thread types for critical loads? I know that Tex 90 poly or nylon bonded is preferred when stitching webbing loops. I also didn’t notice how you finished after the last stitch on either side. Was it a backstitch as with leather, or a tie-off?

Any reason to not use Kevlar fishing line ? I've used this for many different canvas, plastic and work material repairs. Never used it in rope. 80lb test looks a little thinner than what you're using.
