Its only a sin if 1. you get drunk 2. you a dependent on it 3. you cause another brother to stumble. Other than that, having a beer, or any drink is not a sin. Not biblically anyway

I love listening to Christian songs for the broken hearted and crushed in spirit. They heal my soul. But God Is the Healer.

I think Paul was right in saying that partaking in something that causes a brother to stumble is a sin.

I was raised in a Pentecostal home, taught total abstinence from alcohol. I realize others were not brought up with such a strict standard. But as for me, I have abstained for 50 years, and will continue the rest of my days. As far as Jesus turning the water into wine, when the King sets it before me, I will drink!

I enjoyed this! I was a drunkard before Christ and the day I submitted my life to Christ and was baptized with The Holy Spirit out on my farm by myself, God radically supernaturally set me free from my addiction of alcohol. (I was an alcoholic since I was 14 years old and been to rehabs, AA and 30 day dry outs as an adult wanting to quit but finding I was never able to on my own) nothing set me free from that spirit of addiction other than Jesus Christ that day! Along with many other things I was set free from and continue to be set free from more things as I’m being sanctified daily in my walk with Christ and seeking Him... but my conviction with alcohol personally is that if God set me free from alcohol, it’s not something I believe I as a Christian should partake in. He set me free from it bc it is sin and not of Him and interfered with making Him first in my life and being a fruitful witness for Him and 1Corinthians 6:9-10 also says a drunkard WILL NOT inherit the kingdom of Heaven. There’s another biblical answer. If we want to go to Heaven we can’t be a drunkard.

I'm Irish and finding this tough, I want to quit alcohol for good however, all my family and friends drink and every social situation usually involves a pub, I think I need some Christian friends lol

On my way to work just this morning (May 21, 2019), I heard a prayer request on the radio regarding a lady whose husband is caught up in drinking alcohol to excess but also loved his wife. He had decided he wanted alcohol much more than his wife and marriage and they are in divorce proceedings. It just rends my heart. I so appreciate your integrity in preaching the Word of God without compromise. Thank you and God bless you and the Living Waters ministry.

Drinking alcohol is a bad example, especially for those who struggle with addiction or trying to be set free. Who knows, you might be giving somebody a license to think it's okay to drink.
I grew up in an alcoholic home and watched its subtle trap in many lives who never set out to be alcoholic, but just drifted into needing more and more... that is the nature of that beast.
I say refrain completely.
Can you pray when you're tipsy?
Can you drive when you're tipsy?
Can you share the gospel when you're tipsy?
No

I have really enjoyed this conversation. I like an occasional beer or glass of wine and do not feel guilty about it because I have no desire to get drunk. Everything in moderation. I agree with asking others if it offends them and if so, don't do it! Thanks for the discussion.

"Do not be drunk with wine" and "do not be a stumbling block to your brother" come to mind. The issue is that one drink leads to another...and frequently, this state of mind leads to other forms of depravity. I've lived like this for many years and now I'm done. Ray, you're right...the things that brought comfort did not bring JOY. Thank you!

I dont drink. But I always go back to what the bible said. Drunkenness is the sin.
But don't drink with some one who has a problem and can fall into sin.

You guys are great! I really appreciate what you’re doing on here. You guys have helped me to convict myself and see what is wrong and false in my life. I mean this from the bottom of my heart, thank you! I’m presently in a place in my walk with GOD where I’m being (finally) honest with myself and not making excuses. The journey has truly just begun. Please pray for me and my family.

I am 7 yrs late to this discussion but I could use some prayers to help me kick alcohol. AA didn't work for me. God bless you all.

I definitely believe that the over indulging of alcohol is sin. My father was an alcoholic and my child sucked because of it. I didn't have much guidance. So, I grew in ignorance with total freedom. Freedom and ignorance are a bad combination. Because whether or not you know the consquences of your actions you still going to reap what you sow. Like coming accross a snake you don't know is poisonous. When it bites you will still die. Now, I drink on occasion. Keep mind how ever I have thorns in my flesh and am in a lot of pain. But, even if i wasn't I woukd still have a few with a good meal. Nothing like it after a hard day of work. Especially along side the joy of Lord filling your heart. it is so Good then I say thanks and praise God.

TWO things kept me from alcohol; watching my mother cry repeatedly when her severely drunken brother would phone her up and scream and insult her on the phone; she shd have just said i will talk to you when youre sober and hung up. but the tables turned when he was on his deathbed screaming her NAME in desperate terror bc he was not a christian and knew that SHE WAS! also a defence lawyer I worked for when I was a young adult told me that bars are full of uncaught criminals, plus the statements of defence I typed out for his clients always started the same way...we were in the bar having drinks when...

After praying about it multiple times, finally my body actually rejected alcohol. Whenever I would drink, then I couldn't sleep because I felt like I had to pee all night, but no pee would come out, or very little. I think the alcohol was messing with my prostate or something. Now I don't want to drink because of this, and actually being sober feels better. I started making some non-alcoholic beverages and carbonating them in my home-brew keg, so I can drink that. I make pine needle tea with fresh sage in it and carbonate it. It is actually very good!
