Mr. Pearl, thank you for answering this for all of us that got tattooed before we were saved. I hope the Lord forgives me for the carp tattoo I got after losing my mother, my only younger brother, and my best friend of twenty years in a span of fifteen months.

I have no tattoos. But I always wanted a full yakuza style body suit complete sleeves and down to my knees. Never did because of my family and my ex wife’s family’s beliefs about tattoos. Tattoos being mainstream is a relatively new thing. Most cultures use tattoos to mark criminals. Or for religious reasons. Or as memorials. In Roman times, hard core Christians would have a tattoo of a cross on them. To prove their dedication to Christ because to have that symbol on you at that time was a death sentence. For me, I’ve study enough about demons to know where there is blood letting, they are there attaching themselves to the ritual. I had thoughts of having the entire Bible tattooed on myself, so I’d always have a Bible with me. Decided to tattoo it on my heart instead. I agree with his assessment. Nothing wrong with having tattoos, but if your a Christian you shouldn’t get anymore, for no other reason that to not be a stumbling block to a weaker brother in the faith.

i had tattos before i became a christian and in the beginning i was planing on a full sleve for god 😀 but nah, i cant. god clearly said his piece about markings on the flesh. he doesnt like it and i doubt he changed his stance and is now a fan of kanjis or stupid tribals on our beautiful bodies. and thats from a guy with large markings on his flesh. they are a good reminder of my vanity though!

Our body is the temple of God & hence a living sacrifice to God, so do not defile your bodies with a tattoo. It is a pagan practice carried out by egyptians etc. "Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple" - 1 Cor 3:16-17

In the New Testament it says that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). In the old testament it would be un thinkable for the Jews to do graffiti on the the walls of their temple so why should we as born again, Holy Spirit filled Christians want to do graffiti on our bodies which are the temple of the Holy Spirit?

the teaching for the marring of the beard is talking about Scarification. The teaching about not shaving your hair and or beard was for the Levitical priests and Nazarites.

I hope this message finds you, I know it’s a year later. I don’t have any tattoos but my wife has really been wanting to get a couples tattoo that says I love you in each other’s handwriting. I have many mixed feelings about it and was looking for a little advice on it
