Making a shed ramp

I built a shed ramp with Trex! Let me know what you think!

The best drill and driver:

Materials:
(3) 2X8X8 ground contact treated lumber
(1) 8' Trex Square Edge
(3) 16' Trex Grooved Edge
Composite screws, deck screws and (5) 4" lag bolts

I had to make the shed ramp 5 feet wide and 4 feet long. The shed was about 1 foot off the ground. I dug down 6 inches to make sure it would be level with the ground. 1.5 inches for the pavers 3.5 inches for the 2X4 and 1 inch for the Trex boards. I made sure the bricks were level. I cut the boards to length and then ripped them in half to make the 2X4. I placed one end of the board on a cement block and the other end in the shed opening. I placed my level against the board and side of the opening to determine the angle that I needed. I cut all the boards at the same angle on the chop saw. I used decking screws to hold the frame together. I screwed one lag bolt into the middle of the ramp to attach it to the shed. I used my level to make sure it was level and used the rest of the lag bolts to secure it in place. Then the frame was complete. I decided to cut Trex for the sides of the ramp first as it was easy to scribe a line on the back to determine the correct angles. I did both sides the same way. Next I cut the square edge Trex for the two sides. I cut them at a 45 degree angle to meet up at the bottom. The last part was just to fill in the middle with the Grooved Trex. Let me know what questions you may have.

Would you use Trex for your shed ramp?

That might be the nicest looking shed ramp on YouTube.

My guy! I just built a patio and have leftover trex. Just poured my slab for the shed and had every intention to use the trex for the ramp. Wouldnt imagine I would fine a video on youtube with what I wanted to do. Thanks so much, will used this to build mine and will reply back when I get it done, probably around 10/16/2022. Thanks so much!

I just had a man build a shed for me. I wanted to build a ramp for my shed and came across your video and I really liked your ramp. We went to town and got the material you recommended, can’t wait to get it done, thank you

one thing I have learned put gravel under your ramp if it is 6 feet wide add concrete block under the center of the ramp half way down as it supports the ramp much better . Pressure treated wood is not as good as it used to be . Never cut your door also as driving rain and melting snow will get under the bottom cut of the door and ruin your floor . I also used flashing tape against wood to wood contact to keep rot from happening . I also added 4x4's to the sides to make a railing so if ther ramp s slippery when I walk up it, I have something to grab onto . I also went under my prebuilt shed and added joist hangers to the joists . I want the shed foor supported as much as possible

Really nice. Did you use spacers between the deck boards? You must of measured precisely in order to not have to rip that last deck board.

I’m about to replace mine that rotted after 7 years. I’m going to use 2x6 and attempt what you did. I’m just not good at cutting those angles on the side like you did and the outline of the deck boards.

One thing you missed. Before the cement block went in you should of tamped for stability.

Nice job. Can you please tell me what size are the joists? Hard to tell. Thanks.

I thought grooved was supposed to use the hidden fasteners?

Do you really need 6 - 16’ grooved edge boards? Thank you for getting back with me

it's very expensive shed ramp but looks very nice so how long will be last?

Very nice! Thanks for sharing. And I like the look of the shed with the metal on it. Did you build your shed as well? I would love to have something that’s not completely wood. Wood doesn’t last long enough and looks bad over time.
