They need to find the owners and hold them liable

Our society is sick when people have to go out of the way to explain why two dogs had to be shot for attacking humans.

I was attacked by a pit bull just recently and it was a completely UNPROVOKED attack! I was out in my front yard minding my own business when my neighbor had a friend come over who brought his pit bull with him. He had brought the dog several times before but never let him outside without a leash. He let the dog out to pee and as soon as it saw me it charged across my own yard snarling at me and tried to attack my legs. Thankfully I crouched forward in a defensive posture and when it lunged forward I punched down on top of its snout then it retreated back to its owner. I called the cops immediately but the guy heard my yelling and grabbed his dog and fled before the cops arrived. People who say “my dog never attacked anyone” need a dose of reality. NEWSFLASH… for every 1 pit bull that “ never attacked anyone” there are HUNDREDS that DO and even attack the hand that feeds them! They are a dangerous and aggressive breed and CANNOT be trusted!! I’m witness to this!

In some countries it's illegal to have a pit bull.

My brother in law is a facial surgeon for an ER and he said he’d never own a pitbull bc 99% of dog bites on victims faces that he has to reconstruct are from pits.

I was attacked by a renters pit bull. No growling, no pre-attack indicators. Inside the house with the renter. I get tired of people who own these animals claiming it's how they're raised. Bull

To be 83 years old and have to endure such pain. I feel for the old man.

Owners of pit bulls will tell you they are such great pets even with kids in the home until they attack the kids and or adults.

That old man saved someone's life, he approached the stupid dogs and they acted friendly until they sensed that he was vulnerable, imagine a little kid(s)?

Just had this happen to me. I was walking my little 15lb Bichon x Shih Tzu when a Pit bull got off it’s leash and attacked my dog. 2 wonderful neighbors were heroes and helped pull the dog off my dog. I later found out the dog had my dogs leg down it’s throat. Emergency Vet saved my dogs life but had to pay 5k. If you look online over 60% of dog attacks are Pit bull related. So sad for everyone involved.

I've met some really sweet pit bulls but never owned one. I also have 1st and 2nd hand knowledge of Pits snapping on family members and law abiding citizens. And once that switch is tripped, it's hard to switch it off...if there's more than one involved they feed off the other's energy. Around 2000 I accompanied Sheriff's detectives to a scene where a woman was killed by 3 of them. Her face had been stretched into what looked like a leather mask and the back of her arms were void of flesh. She was found laying face down with her hands covering both sides of her face. She bled out because they ripped away all the tissue on the backs of her arms as she tried to protect herself. I'll never own one and nobody can ever convince me otherwise.

Cue all the pit bull nut jobs saying "it's the owner, not the dog".
Yeah, right.

They need to start putting the owners in jail.

Several years ago, a small child was being mauled by three pits. When a police officer arrived, Grandma was in the yard yelling "Don't hurt my dogs!" Her grandson was being torn apart and she was worried about her freaking dogs!

The officer shot and killed one dog, wounded another and the third ran away. Later, the two surviving dogs were euthanized and Granny got some jail time. It took several surgeries to put the child back together, but he survived.

I am hoping and praying that the owner will be found and held accountable. It is terrible to be attacked by someone else's dogs on your property.

Decades ago when I worked as a hospital OR nurse, I was called in for an emergency surgery. A lovely little girl had been sitting on her parents front porch swing, petting the next door neighbor’s dog (which she had done many times before). Suddenly the dog grabbed her off that swing and pounced!! It sunk its teeth into her scalp and pulled - - nearly scalping her!!! Luckily there was a plastic surgeon who was available and he spent nearly five hours, carefully putting that scalped area back onto her head. She ended up with only a few scares at the top of her forehead.
FYI: the owner of the dog had it ‘put down’ and covered whatever medical bills insurance didn’t pay.

As a retired animal control officer I can tell you many many horror stories that involved pit bulls. One comes to mind of a family whos pet pit bull, described as loving, happy, loyal, and all around good dog, turned viscous one evening and attacked his owner tearing at his face and neck. The ambulance arrived and the EMT could not reach the victim, who at this point is unconscious due to blood loss, as the dog had latched onto the owners arm and would not let go. The sheriff was also there and it was determined that the only way to save the owner was to shoot the dog, in which the sheriff did. This all happened in a short period of time, but the panic and chaos was crazy. Now this was a family dog attacking his own owner, so this breed has a bad rap for a reason. There are other breeds who can be nasty too, but all in all most bite cases I had investigated involved pit bulls. The owner survived but surely with horrible scars and memories all because of one dog.

"It's how you raise them!" I mean, there is probably a tiny bit of truth to that. A grizzly bear, killer whale, wolf, tiger, lion, etc. can be raised to get along with humans better than those in the wild. But no one is surprised when these animals attack zookeepers and zoogoers. And no one should be surprised when pitbulls decide to pitbull. Fighting/attacking is in a pitbull's DNA. That was the whole purpose for which they were bred. It comes as naturally to them as swimming does for a lab.

It’s awesome to see so many sensible and level-headed comments from people who absolutely acknowledge that this is a dangerous breed. Facts are facts. They are far more lethal than any other breed. Once they attack, they attack to kill. And too many “sweet ones” suddenly “snap.”

Trying to pet 2 stray pit bulls is crazy. I believe he knew he couldnt run so he tried to be nice, but they tried to eat him anyways.
