Heyo Antonio!

I hope everyone is staying safe in the comfort of their own homes! If you don't know what to do with the spare time that you have, why not learn something new and interesting?

Today we cover the topic of astigmatism.

It is a very tricky concept to grasp, but if you familiarise yourself with the principles that I lay out in this video it should be quite easy to understand.

Stay tuned for more content as I will be working very hard during these times to get as many high quality videos up on this channel as possible.

Thank you! I have an astigmatism with a cyl of -5.75, one of the worst my optometrist said he's ever seen, so I've been looking for a video with a better visual of what astigmatism is to better understand 😅

Mine was never corrected in my myopia prescription and I always wondered why I had this double text Vision even just after getting my new prescription glasses, I had always thought that maybe the optician didn't give me the correct prescription

Great video and explanation! I'm an optician educator in NC. You're awesome! I'll be linking this video in my lessons. This will definitely help my students. Thank you for what you do!

Want to talk about weird eyes, I am nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other. And, both eyes have mixed astigmatisms. The prescription I wear is the one where my two eyes work best together, but if I cover either eye and just use one eye things are out of focus. Incredibly, because of how the brain works, I actually have 20/20 vision (and depth perception) when my two eyes work together. The weirdest part is I never knew this about my eyes until I needed reading glasses. Until then, my far eye saw far and my near eye saw near so I never knew I had a problem.

Thanks Mr Antonio . Qestion : in with the rule astigmatism, why do we correct it with a plus lens axis 90. form your explanation, the curvature x 90 is steeper and it focuses the light before the retian ....

Thank you so much for the explaining. How can I tell if an astigmatism is with or against the rule?

I have astigmatism in both eyes, corrected by +1.50 cyl in both eyes, 165 and 10 degrees. Sph plano on both. Reading + 2, 75
I have recently had varifocal/ progressive glasses, but wondered do they give me any extra distance from the top as it varies to the bottom?

I'm 17 and i diagnosed with astigmatism -3.25 with no spherical power in one right eye and -3 cyl with -0.75 spherical power in left eye . My visual acuity without glasses is 6/18 in right and 6/24 in left . I see blur from left but not with left . I have problem in seeing far distances. I got glasses but after two days i see lines from bulb

Great video! If the astigmatism level btwn two eyes is more than .50, is it possible that a person has a hard time with eyeglasses prescribed with the proper Rx? I found it quite difficult to get accustomed to a higher -1 cylinder in one eye and a -.25 in the other when viewing though both eyes, even after a time of using new glasses.

In the diagram you have shown two focal points from vertical and horizontal meridia...but doesnt it actually is a line of foci for each?

If you have ONLY astigmatism and not myopia or hyperopia, is the distortion in your vision the same at all distances? Or do things closer up look less distorted than things farther away due to the pure astigmatism?

Edit - he answers this in a comment below

My both eyes have a cylindrical number, 1 and .75 and I even wear glasses, but I don't know why objects still appear blurry all the time, especially shiny objects, please help me doc.
