What is ASTIGMATISM of the EYE? #shorts

Astigmatism is a common eye condition where the light going through the eye does not focus to a single point on the retina. Astigmatism symptoms often includes blurred, fuzzy or skewed vision. Astigmatism is often caused by a curvature to the cornea - the clear window to the eye.

Not fully described in this short video is how astigmatism can also be caused by the curvature to the lens inside the eye, however, the end result is the same.

For most people astigmatism is not a disease but can progress and change with age. For some unlucky individuals, other eye diseases such as keratoconus can result in extreme levels of astigmatism.

Thankfully, for most cases of astigmatism, people can see very well with eyeglasses, astigmatism correcting contact lenses and refractive surgery such as lasik.

Suffered 3 long weeks from constant motion sickness. Went to my friend's optometrist as he suggested and was diagnosed with astigmatism. Now I'm wearing glasses and have been well since then. :))) <3

I used to think everybody saw the world like I did. (Stretched lights, blurry vision etc.) I took an astigmatism test online for fun. It had some lines and I saw some of them... More thick than other lines. I doubted at first. Then I remembered my father and sister both had astigmatism at such high levels. I convinced my mother and we went to the eye doctor. They diagnosed me with myopic and astigmatism (with the rule). I can never forget the moment I first wore my glasses! My jaw dropped! But when I started to use it daily, I got nauseous. (Because of the wobbly objective of the glasses) But I got used to it! Having information about such things can really help out a lot!

I have very mild astigmatism (1.25 dc), but the difference between corrected and uncorrected vision is like night and day. I always used to blame the windshield for those annoying little tails trailing from car lamps. Oops, not anymore. 🙈🤣🤓

I just got prescribed my first glasses. My cuisine is ok just a little nearsighted and my astigmatism is technically considered mild but man those lights at night and sometimes the lines in the road make driving terrible. I have -.75 in right and -.25 in left

I hate when I get ready to take a shower and take my EyeGlasses off and suddenly start tripping on things because I can’t freaking see anything clearly.

My 2 year old got this from his mom side. We just picked up his glasses and soon as we put it on he immediately smiled! Unfortunately he’s not use to it and takes it off here and there but the feeling was great to see him smile and finally see us clear!

I have severe astigmatism and clearly remember the day I got my first pair of hard contact lenses at 14, I had full vision, including peripheral. They took some getting used to but they literally changed my life allowing me to do things I wouldn’t otherwise be permitted, in my case, be an airline stewardess. That in itself was a massively life changing opportunity. 55 years later, still wearing what are now gas permeable lenses, I am ever grateful to them and the freedoms they gave me. (My astigmatism can’t be corrected by surgery or Tori lenses.)

I never thought it was a condition, i thought it was normal. I kind of think i have it because my vision is like if you took a circle (representing the eye) and kinda fade from blurry to clear from the edges to the middle. If i look directly at something i see it very sharp but theres like a blurry ring aroung my vision. Thanks for the information!

i have glasses (im too lazy to wear them and my astigmatism is very low so i only worry about near-sightedness but its only in one eye so yea) and i hate when i forget to put them on then try reading somrthing in a classroom. its like lowering the resolution, all of a sudden pixels are bigger. in the same way, everything becomes a blob. its not blurry, they're like blobs that make it hard to comprehend stuff.
