A lot of invertebrates get a bad rap when they are really beautiful creatures. I'm a spider lover, kept many kinds so I love seeing videos like this. I also think a lot of spider fear is taught to us from a child's age. You see a spider for the first time and your parent has a fearful reaction you gonna take on that fear as a kid.

I searched "how to understand tarantulas to get over fear", and found this! I understand how important spiders are, and I really don't want to be afraid of them. I'm not gonna say that I'm cured 😆, but I have a new appreciation for spiders, and I'm working on it. So, thank you! 🕷🕸

Fear ends where the knowledge starts. I was afraid of spiders for a good part of my life, and then I bought my first tarantula, learnt about it, bought like 100 more, and the fear disappeared. When you know they are not there to hunt you down, and how fragile they are, the only fear you feel is fear of hurting them.

I have really bad arachnophobia 🤦‍♂️ but I’ve been doing exposure therapy by keeping tarantulas and some true spider species and truly enjoy watching them and feeding them. It took a few years to get to this point though and still won’t handle them but I’m truly not as afraid of them as I used to be. If your interested check them out I film them and to share their beauty with others. Well I hope you have a great day and wish you the best just be safe and keep having fun bud 🙋‍♂️✌️

I have..somewhat conquered my fear of spiders. I was living in Romania in a flat so the only spiders I was seeing were the skinny leg ones (cellar spiders). Since I've moved to the UK I got to meet the real deal ..and lots of them. Slowly I got used to them, now when I see one I try to safely capture it and releas it.

Hahaha, awesome thumbnail 😁 I dunno if I could ever get to letting a spider crawl on my face. But, very good ideas at showing us how to overcome our fears rationally. I once saw a cool little purple bug on a flower and I let it crawl onto my finger. As I was looking at it I noticed the tiny creature had 8 legs and I gasped for a second because I realized it was a spider. But, by that point of holding it in my hands I slowly began to realize I had nothing to be afraid of. So, I definitely think your video makes a lot of sense. Very cool as always, Rob and the rest of the contributing gang.

I try to know the dangers (or lack of them) of the various spiders in any area I'm hiking, so videos like these are really helpful. Thank you.

As one of the actual 6% of true arachnophobes, I'm going to hard pass on voluntarily handling any spider, though I do try to catch and release anything rated as harmless to humans that wanders into my house that belongs in the garden so it can do its work outside - where it belongs despite the sheer terror it causes me.

I worked for a while as an education officer at a zoo. We did several animal handling sessions each day and a few of the animals we used were not the normal cuddly kind. We had several snakes, hissing cockroaches and a particularly well behaved tarantula. It was great to watch kids fascination grow with the animals, and rarely did we have any child refuse the option of handling any of the animals.
Adults, on the other hand... Total bunch of wimps!

I'm 73 years old. Science, nature geek my whole life. Collected and studied Spiders when young, early 1960's. I had dozens of living native Spiders in cages. Tolerant parents? I wanted a Tarantula. Long before pet stores carried them. AM Radio talk show called "Ask yonr neighbor". A frequent caller's husband worked on the shipping docks here in Milwaukee. He got me in touch with a banana plantation in Hundaris. They airfreighted me one. I had the female 14 years. Later on had 3 more simultaneously. A whole nother story. Chiquita was her name. Interviewed by local paper, since WTMJ radio and Joyrnal paper were affiliated.

Just started watching your channel the last few months and I really like how you cover topics, introduce them to other people in the videos, include experts, and encourage others. Inspiring!

I don’t understand why people are so scared of spiders. I find them fascinating!

Awesome video! I’ve also let children work with spiders (mostly huntsmen in my case) with very similar results. It’s so rewarding to see fears and superstition ebb away in real time.

Had a wolf spider in an aquarium as a kid so not afraid of spiders but I hate to get tangled in their webs while walking or horseback. I've also met quite a few people with skin/muscle atrophy from Brown Recluse spider bites so very cautious.

It's not that spiders are venomous it's an unknown fear that is the worse!

I'm sorry, but I live in an area that is a veritable breeding ground for fiddlebacks (brown recluse.) I grew up knowing the difference well. And knowing the dangers and their habitat. THIS started my fear. THEN I moved to a new place that was ripe with Black Widow spiders. I do not have an irrational fear. I have a healthy fear and respect for venomous and dangerous hiding spiders than can take a limb, cause my flesh to be necrotic, and/or kill me.

I grew up around lots of spiders and when I was younger I was perfectly fine letting spiders and bugs crawl on me, but a lot of my friends and family are terrified of them so it made me afraid, I wanna get over that again one day :‘)
