I'm always asked what the deadliest spider in the world is. Today, not only am I tracking down one of them, but I'll be holding a Brazilian wandering spider in my bare hand to find out just how dangerous they really are. Stay tuned, because this is one unforgettable encounter.

Here at MyWildBackyard we investigate the secrets of the natural world- secrets that can be hidden in our very own backyards! I want to share the incredible world of insects, spiders and other wildlife with you and inspire you to explore your curiosity. Get out there, and find your adventure!

For those who read the description- we've updated the channel! I'm working on adding more features to videos to better expand our conversations about the secrets we find in the natural world! Introducing the Creature Tier System! There are four rankings:
1. Staple - These are the lowest tier creatures. They are the most common species in a given habitat, and while they're not boring, they're really only exciting when you're exploring a new habitat and you haven't seen them before. Not something to write home about.
2. Neat - These are a step up from Staple. They don't make your entire day, but they are worth taking a closer look at when found. Definitely can be exciting to have a productive day finding many Neat species.
3. Wild - These are exciting to find. Whether they have interesting defensive features that offer a nice challenge in the field, are particularly cool looking, or maybe a little bit rare, Wild species aren't necessarily the MOST memorable of encounters, but they definitely make your day when you see them. An adventure featuring many Wild species will truly be memorable.
4. Gem - These are special. Usually involving extremely interesting biology and significant rarity, Gem species are animals that you really do not see every day. These species can make your whole adventure, and will be very memorable.

Being able to not only remain calm but also narrate so articulately during the freehandling takes mad talent

Steve Irwin would love you for this. You showed incredible respect and care while handling this spider.

Funny how ants still bite your hands when you act as a surface for them to walk on while spiders don't.

Mad respect for handling this spider, but it shows that those animals never out there to kill humans. Usally its accidents that make a bite happen. Love this channel from germany.

If you ever need signatures for a petition to get you a tv show then I am all in. You are exactly the future I had hoped for after growing up watching Steve Irwin, Jeff Corwin, Ruud Kleinpaste, Jeremy Wade, etc. Your knowledge, video editing, voiceovers, collaborations, and energy to bring interest to exploring your own backyard makes me so happy, thank you

This video blew my mind, not because the spider is "medically significant', rather you can sense its intelligence as it carefully probes its surroundings. That's a remarkable creature; great video work! Keep educating us, guys.

I love that your goal is to give some of these creatures more exposure. I want you to be able to do this for many more years to come. With that said, please don't be feel pressure from viewers to handle these creatures without adequate protection. Thanks again for the remarkable documentation and stay safe!

As a Brazillian I have never seen a calm Phoneutria nigriventer. They are always in fight mode and attack anything that moves near its jumping radius. Their speed when running is incredible without mentioning that they jump from holes in the trees usually and handling them is not advised under any circumstance. I do have concerns in regards to younger viewers seeing this calm depilata and trying the same thing with a nigriventer can end rather badly.

What the hell? Even Coyote Peterson with his experience about getting bitten by venomous insects around the world, doesn't have the balls handling a freaking Brazilian Wandering Spider, like you did! Amazing. You're pushing yourself to the next level. Thank you for providing such amazing experience and new insights about this deadly beauty. And also, stay safe.

I’m pretty sure the Sydney funnel web spider is the most dangerous spider in the world when it comes to envenomation, but these guys are also bad. Major props and man that must’ve been gut wrenching to have that spider across your hand like that!

The amount of trust that you and that spider put in one another was incredible. Two of the deadliest creatures of Earth intimately interacting with caution, trust, and ultimately respect. Freaking amazing.

Most spiders are pretty chill, even when threatened they usually flee... But I know as a brazilian This spider is more of a rattle snake, they jump back do a "funny pose" threating to jump forward to bite you. But contrary to rattle snakes they make no noise and are a bit dumber what is VERY dangerous because you can threat them without even notice. They know exactly the distance to jump and bite you, and if they think you are a threat they will not hesitate to bite you at the first chance they get.

But they usually give you exactly one warning, so I guess even when you tried to catch her, you could instantly notice and let her be. The main problem of these spiders is when they are unnoticed OR you want to fight them. They are normally killed when they enter homes because catching them is very difficult.

They are INDEED the most "aggressive" spiders, but that does not mean they are hunting human beings for dinner (well, that is normally a thing parents tell kids so they can be aware to run away)... They just give much less warnings than any other spider.

I have been preaching about the wonderful world of our backyards and parks for decades! You have a great channel, and I enjoy watching you do what you do. It reminds me of when I would go out and catch the great wildlife living under foliage with my kid when she was little. Great channel and God bless you and your family! Keep it up brother and much love from San Antonio Texas!

I just want you to know that I for one am extremely grateful for your channel and the work you do! You are respectful and compationate with the animals you handle, but most importantly, you educate and in doing so, you elevate fear and in its place install a deep respect and awe for wildlife in the people who watch your channel! I appreciate you and your work more than I could express! ❤

I was born in Brazil. São Paulo state, and spent a good chunk of my childhood in the Atlantic Rain Forest, where phoneutria "armadeiras" were quite prevalent. No other spider commands the same respect, not by a long shot.

The issue with armadeiras is that you usually find them when they are right on top of you, and you inductively make quick defensive movements that trip them off. That's when bites happen.

But I've met a few specimens that showed very aggressive behavior without outright provocation, and that's not a fun day in the forest.

I'm glad you found this very cool individual, but that's not a phoneutria fera, which is normally the species associated with the wilder behavior, the black and orange one.

Thanks for the video!

I live in Sydney Australia, we have the Sydney funnelweb spider that will kill you much faster than the wandering spider but we don't need to go into a jungle to find them, they're in our suburban yards.

The entire time you were free-handling that spider I was cringing "OKAY, OKAY, NOW PUT IT DOWN!" 😂
