Some friends of mine in Maryland were really into organic groceries. Brought home a bunch of bananas one day, and over the next few days started finding insect carcasses around them... A Brazilian Wandering Spider had hitched a ride and they had to have pest control come in and treat their house.

My brother got a brown recluse bite on his leg on his way home from Florida. He thought it was a mosquito bite until a few days later when a coworker looked at it (she’d been an EMT) and said it looked necrotic so he went to a walk in and they identified it. He was successfully treated but it’s been 16 years and it looks like he has a bullet wound scar on his leg from the tissue necrosis.

I've had to deal with brown recluse spiders for years! I almost had one fall on my face once! I immediately snatched it and squashed it! I despise all spiders but the black widow and brown recluse are the ones I have to worry about here in the United States! I have no plans to ever go to Australia! Australia has the most deadliest spiders... no one has died of a spider-bite in Australia in over 40 years. Yay! Anti-venom.

When I was in college in Atlanta, GA in the '70's, my room (in a fraternity house) was home to a large community of brown recluse spiders. They were numerous and obviously well-fed, so I figured they must be eating a lot of insects, and probably a lot of large cockroaches (or as they're called in the South, "Palmetto bugs"). I decided the spiders were natural insect control, and I'd rather have the spiders than have cockroaches big enough to carry off my furniture, so I left the spiders alone, and they left me alone. And I didn't have any cockroach problems.

FYI, The Sydney Funnel Web spider is aggressive. As fuck.
