If you are stuck at trying to enable world partion...

In UE5 Release, World partition is now enabled by default. That is why the option is missing from Project Settings - To enable world partion for your level, use Tools -> Convert Level (it will actually be flagged on by default when you do this.)

I hope this helps other people who get stumped by the changes and out of date documentation. :)

CG Dealers: 15 minutes. Bethesda: 15 years. At this rate I’ll probably watch my son playing TES6

I think this tutorial has convinced me to move my development from Unity to Unreal 5.

I don't know it looks like you have a recent video but what World Machine build version do you have? It looks like you have an old build version, I would recommend you leave that in the description box of the video.

I don't know if there is another way, I didn't find that 1:07 options the guy in the video has. It was a bit frustrating. If I had known which version you was using in the video I wouldn't have gone so crazy with that.

Well enough. Guys 1:07 if you are using the free build tier 4031.2, then you should create a custom shape node by:

(1) Pressing F5 then Generator -> Shapes, then connect the shapes and then press the F6 button while you are selecting the shapes node in the "Device Workview".
(2) Then you must press the right button -> Polygons, do your shape, then to confirm you should press the right button outside the polygon shape. And there you have it a custom polygon shape. Enjoy! 😊

Oh yeah by the way, feel free to mess around a little more in World Machine to get more realistic results. If you want erosion and whatnot. Which is recommended. Also, I don't know if it's possible, but grabbing different Heatmaps from world machine for flow lines and height is good for better textures in Unreal.

I have used Gaia in the past and it comes with the tools to export heatmaps for things like snow, flow lines, rivers, height, even vegetation. You can export slopes too which is useful if you want rocky-looking slopes and cliffs.

So, that's how Battlefield 2042's maps made! 15 minutes each! Nice!

I'll probably never do this myself because I'm not a dev but really fascinating and excellent tutorial, subbed!

Hi i love your video, you are wrong just in SIZE. Unreal Engine uses 1 meter per pixel so if your resolution is 1009x1009 your map will be 1008 meters on Unreal and not 4 kilometers! this is a bit weird but your are actually losing resolution of your terrain! In Ue5 your final map have 8 kilometers and not 32 kilometers take this in mind and your terrains will have a better resolution in Unreal. Excellent video bro i hope ue5 convert our far terrain to meshes in nanite like was in world composition of UE4

Very helpful. Just started doing some basic design and level design looked so daunting but this makes it tolerable.

I wish there were more options to match settings from World Machine. I can get various heightmaps displaying properly way easier in Blender.

Thanks for the hard work! Looking forward to that Gaia Tutorial. I have had horrible luck with world machine. It's just not up to par with what I have been working for. I have been trying to make a lot of islands but not happy with the results. I'm in the process of an open world Sea type game and the terrain is really kicking my ass. So, I am excited for the Gaia tutorial. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much! I'm working on coding my first indie game and this is so helpful. I will make sure to give you credit in some way if I use this tutorial in the end!

I have no clue how you got to the layout creation commands in the beginning of the video, my World Machine looks different and I can't seem to access that pane. I feel so stupid, and it's probably right in front of me - but it's definitely not just there like it is for you when you go into layout view. I'm on build 4031.2

I was super early on the gaia train and was the first to email them to implement sizes for ue4

I love your tutorial, but unfortunately for me, it is not possible to use the old version of WM. Could you port this tutorial please (I beg you) to the new 4000 build version?
