The answer is simple. Everest is a Pay-To-Win mountain and we have way too many rich people nowadays.

The climb is done in 4 stages, that line is probably for camp 3. The serious climbers are the ones that proceed to camp 4 and que for the summit, most deaths occur in that leg of the climb.

They only take those kind of people a certain point up and stop. Fun fact, the higher you go you will start to see dead bodies of people that tried to get the top and couldn’t be retrieved.

Most people don’t go to the summit, but there are tours now that go right up to the point just before you start finding frozen bodies lol I’ll just wait till it’s back at iMax.

A lot of these people don't go to the very top. We have a local mountain that's the same. Enchanted Rock. It's not big, but the line to walk up it is miles long sometimes. But if you go around the back or climb to the top, you're basically alone.
