The biggest rule they need is you need to have climbed other peaks before doing Everest.

Climbing Everest is no longer the unique achievement it used to be.
Sherpa's do it repeatedly, year after year, WITH all the gear. They are the real mountaineers. The rest are just guided tourists who couldn't do it if they had to carry their own shit & not rely on organised assistance ... like the early climbers did it.
It's still risky & dangerous but it's not the PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT it used to be. It's now a crowded, group hike ... A 'unique challenge' does not correspond to a pedestrian traffic jam, in a mountain rubbish tip ...

Easy fix, ban commercial expeditions. You want to climb Everest? Arrange it yourself and climb it yourself. Like it used to be. But Nepal wants that money from commercialization and allows it, so they are not entitled to whine about it. Sorry, but it is true.

Such a shame, for what’s happened at Everest. I’m glad the Napli government has de-commercialized it. Denali has been better protected, or so I hear—because they don’t allow commercial guides. Everyone has to be an experienced mountaineer to even gain access to Denali.

They should have a limited Permit Draw program for each season for say 100 permits. Come up with a system to give preference points to verified experienced climbers. It shouldn't be about how much money you have to spend, but how much dedication and experience you bring to the team/endeavor.

Climbing Mt Everest is No Longer
It hasn't been for atleast 10 years probably longer
The Stigma attached to it is a Bunch of Rich Narcissists ruining a mountain and only caring about themselves
-One Climber was litterally taken down on a Sherpas back
The ungrateful jerk thanked his "Team" not the actual person who went way out of their way to save his life.
If someone were to tell me
"I climbed Mt Everest"
I'm not going to be impressed
-I know it's an extremly hard thing to do but it's been done now thousands of times and Sherapas have likely been doing the amazing feat for hundreds of years. So yeah no longer special
