The number one reason to climb Mt. Everest is to tell people that you’ve climbed Mt. Everest

The bodies on Everest literally NEVER decompose, so climbers use them as markers.

You’re misunderstanding those ladders. They’re not to climb up the mountain, they’re horizontal to walk across the Khumbu Icefall, a sea of shifting crevasses you need to cross to reach the 1st of 4 mountainside camps from base camp. They’re basically bridges suspended above crevasses dozens of feet wide and hundreds of feet deep where either side can start moving at any time. People can and do die there. But unlike the mountainside where bodies freeze and become landmarks, the Icefall eats its victims and leaves no traces behind.

The Sherpas are the ones who deserve all the respect and credit.

My man just compared crossing an abyss to certain death over a rickety ladder with a cruise ship.

It takes away the challenge when it’s commercialized. Like he said, it’s like waiting in Disneyland because it’s basically an attraction now

The reason people might climb Mount Everest is because they want to achieve something. I am a hiker in I think it'd be pretty cool to climb Mount Everest.

Using a ladder to cross an impassable feature doesn't make climbing the mountain any less impressive. When someone makes the comparison of using a 14 foot ladder to cross a crevasse on Mt Everest to sailing across the sea on a cruise ship, it makes me question your thought process.

They have more trust in that ladder than me in my family 💀

The ladders are for the points that are too steep to climb or there is a really deep hole they need to cross

I imagine if you got to the top you'd only have 5 seconds of enjoyment until it was the next persons turn. 50k well spent 💀

Ladders are crucial. Many climbers use it to cross gaps.
