I have to tell people the same thing, do not look at my dog, do not pet him, do not talk to him. People instinctively want to do all those things when they see a dog and it can be frustrating for us with reactive dogs

You respected him that’s what I saw

You should always always address the owner first. With the dog its no talk no touch no eye contact. Stop baby talking the dog. Stop that vocal shrieking I love that about Mr Davis. Thank you sir

With my own reactive/nervous dog I make sure to explicitly tell people not to try to pet him until I give the go ahead, which may take months, when his body language softens and he shows he's looking for a pet and not just looking to sniff/check out rhe person. I also make sure to tell them where is good to pet, not to reach over the top of his head, and I constantly monitor him and the minute he shows any signs of I end it there.

Years ago it was common sense to ask, I've always taught my children never to touch a dog without permission from an owner, now a days people are like its all about me an not others x

Yea I’ve had them walk right up and reach while they ask if it’s ok to pet. My daughter trains service dogs and she never ever lets anyone touch Sully while he’s working

I have a reactive dog, but nit a fearful one. She is first protecting me, and she barks very loud, and then want to grert them in a too aggressive way. I have to get people to ignore her, because the more they speak to her and try to pet her the worse she is.
Mostly she needs socialization. I got her during covid.
I know she is not a dangerous to others reactive dog, but it doesn't make it less frustrating to get people to listen. I feel like I need a sign!

People need training, I've told people do not look at him in particular his eyes just stand still and basically ignore him. Don't touch or speak... SEEMS MAJORITY ARE A BIT HARD OF HEARING, as soon as the dog appears to be settling turns away or indicates any sort of relax . They DAMN WELL can't help themselves ‼️😡 Then they complain are fearfully etc. ....
Some humans🤷

If I see some one say "well that's why you socialise them" I'm gonna die. But like bruv💀 nit every dog has been with their owner since puppy hood.

Guy up the road from me has a dog just like this so he asks no one pets him cos hes unpredictable. I just always think "get him trained" hes a staffy and they already have a bad rep here in the uk so help the dog?

I’ll just shoot my shot and ask to let me come work for you 😭. I’ve never had a job that made me happier than dog training

Yeah the second he sniffed he showed signs of being insecure (also when you had to pivot before hand) and put himself in between you and his owner. Good idea not to take space or try to interact yet.

Did you look him in the eyes or avert your glance?

This is Marvin all the way no matter what you tell people they do not listen! Also should I put him in a place or let him sniff on his terms

The dog is scared. And blame it’s owner.

One bite is to much, put the dog down before the dog kills someone.

She needs to take off that collar immediately. He can't even trust her as she hurts him with this collar.

There's an awful lot of good dogs out there that would be a nice social companion. Happy to entertain strangers. After a handful of trainers, with no progress, I would opt out. Since they have incompatible lifstyles, mayybe Mr. Pit should go live (or not) elsewhere. Just tell your friends "he went to live on the farm". Most, if not all, will be relieved they dont have to worry about your pitbull anymore.
