Motoring TV mechanic Bill Gardiner is a man who appreciates power.

So he was naturally drawn to the Mercury Marine booth at the Toronto International Boat Show where some high-horsepower marine engines were one display.

What caught his eye were a couple of variations of a 9.0-litre V8, one of which Mercury Marine will gladly sell to anyone building a custom car—for a whopping US$70,000.

"The neat thing about a marine engine is ... the block and everything about this engine is so robust that it can (withstand) tremendous power application," Bill says, noting that adding forced induction is easily within reach.
