Why you should NEVER buy a SNAP-ON Scan Tool.

I rarely post anything that is negative, but I felt the need to make this video after a very frustrating ordeal with Snap-On over the possible update of a Verus pro scanner.
While it's clear that Snap-On makes some of the best tools and scanners on the market, this level of customer support for such an expensive tool is totally unacceptable.

Thanks for taking the time to put this out there. I was considering a Snap-On scanner but now will look elsewhere.

I seriously thought about buying a Verus Edge off the truck last week for roughly $2500 with a trade-in, was $4200. Our rep said it came with 1 free update. 2 guys I work with bought one each, I told him I would think about it. Oh man, am I glad I saw this. Thank you, sir. Techs need to know they are getting screwed with the software updates and planned obsolescence. Autel Maxisys Elite will move up the list of stuff to get, Snap On scanners come off.

Long time viewer of your CB and blog vids, also new hire at Snap-on's Diangostics division. I'll ask our software team and management why we refuse to sell products we've already developed to our loyal customers. Thanks for raising this issue, Eric!

I have a Solus and if someone pointed this out to me before I wouldn't have bought it. This is great info that people should be aware of. Great video!

I'm always amazed that Snap-On hasn't been sued under the RICO Act.

This is very useful info. You just saved me from buying and getting into the wrong brand.

Thank you for this video. I just made up my mind to NEVER GET A SNAP ON SCAN TOOL EVER AGAIN.

Very true! Also I've noticed they lack a lot of bidirectional features vs the competition.

As an expert IT guy (and auto master tech)...this behavior would kill the whole IT industry...the last available update for an application from almost every company, is normally offered as „legacy versions“ or „unsupported versions“ somewhere on the vendors page....for free!!!

Scam-off Snap-on !

Thanks a lot mate. I was just comparing tools this morning just to get the best way forward. No one seem to give such an insight about snap-on as you've just done. You've made my decision making easier now. I'm going the Autel way without giving it a second thought. Thank you very much.

I have a Snap-On Modis Ultra, a $ 8, 000 dollar plus tool, the update is number 19.4, and is the last available one for this unit, at a cost of over $ 1, 300 bucks, W.T.F. Snap-On . I have bought their tools, boxes, scanners, and merchandise for over 35 years . N E V E R A G A I N will I purchase any kind of Snap-On diagnostic tools, I said A N Y . Just sick of them scamming, and ripping us off with discontinued junk . I couldn't sell this with all its paperwork, and perfect packaging for the cost of the software update . Absolutely junk .

I don't blame you those scanners are $9000 new. A 1995 civic was $7800 new they still make parts for one.

I started working professionally in 2003 and for years myself and many other techs didn’t buy a snap on scan tool until 10+ years later for one reason, the software. The snap on dealers told everyone that if you missed an update then you had to pay for it. So if you had a solus and were 2 years outdated it would cost you about the same price as buying a new solus. I got a new snap on dealer one day that had some older scan tools he was selling for next to nothing I picked up a solus pro he said $250 and I said I would buy it would cost so
Much to get updated because it’s so far out. He said that’s not true it’s $580 if it’s current or 5 years out. Every time I’ve gotten an update since the dealer tells me it’s more money and when I tell them what I know they do it for the standard update price.

Yeah their modular scan tools are a bit pricey and a headache for updating. The older snap on scanners with the personality keys were the only ones where you could buy every update and hold onto it.

100% agreed. Learning my lesson right now. They are telling me I need to upgrade to the Zeus In order to use the inline features or update my verus pro for 1, 000 so I can use the online features for 6 more months. So pay 2, 000 a year and keep it updated or upgrade to a new scanner that costs 13, 000!!! There should be laws against this kind of stuff.

I would agree 100 percent. I have been buying snap on scanners from day one. In the business over 45 years. Same thing happened to me. No support I fell at all. at least offer the last update.

I can understand your frustration, if it makes you feel better I'm personally using a MT2500 still lol. The snapon flustration gets 100x worse with second hand units. They simply wont do anything for you and tell you to upgrade. Looked at various units on ebay many are stolen or have liens on them still.

Great info on the Snap-on scanner and updates or lack there of.
Watching all of your video’s, I am a devote follower. You pack so much information into each one.
You explain things in an easy enough understanding way that it is not that the pieces fit together
like a puzzle. No, better that that, your explanations flow together in such a way, as you say it, that
we the viewers do not have to think about it because the understanding becomes immediately
apparent as you talk about everything that you message.
I live in a Condo, I pay monthly dues for lawn maintenance. I want to go out, buy an old lawn
mower to fix up and mow. I want to dig up my lawn cared for common area and plant something.
I have never smoked, I want to go buy a Cigar. I want to go buy a CB radio and install a 30 ft
antenna to loop from bumper to bumper on my car.
Keep the great video's and information.
Thanks for the nice comment about Charleston by the Glass.
