India to surpass China in total population: What does it mean for the two countries? | DW News

China has claimed the top spot since the 1950s, but India is forecast to finally overtake China's population. They are both neck and neck at 1.4 billion citizens. But India's population is set to keep growing, peaking in the 2060s, while China's appears to be already declining.
As China and India collect census data differently, and due to the large numbers, it is hard to say exactly when India surpasses China. But demographers say it is happening some time this month. It may have actually already happened.

It’s a record that most likely will never be reached again by any other country. Projected population in 2060 is 1.7 billion people. China and India have always had the largest populations for thousands of years due to the immense natural resources they have. India needs to bring its population down to under 1 billion otherwise there will be too much pressure on its own agriculture, employment and population density. We need a two-child policy ASAP.

Having the world's largest population is nothing, in itself, to be proud of. One has to ask if the quality of life for the population is improving and if the rate of population growth is negatively impacting their wellbeing? One must remember that any society must (or should) ensure the best education it can for the younger generation and provide some degree of security for the older generation.

China is developing and converting its labour forces from human to AI robots with better quality overall, less ppl might not be a bad thing for China but India will have more troubles with higher population due to lack of food, resources, infrastructures, works, more importantly many Indian regions don't even speak same languages
