India's population on track to surpass China: UN

India will have an estimated 1.428 billion people against China's 1.425 billion by the middle of the year, according to UN projections. Population expert Poonam Muttreja says the best way to slow growth is to provide girls with higher education. Most marry very young, not finishing school amid pressure to have children.

Social and economic problems such as backward infrastructure, religious contradictions, caste system, the most conservative foreign economy, education, etc., especially the inefficiency of the Indian government in formulating and implementing policies. India maybe the most populous nation in the world. But India cannot overtake China in business, technology and military prowess. The country as a whole has a slower economic growth, high income disparities between the relatively few rich population and the majority of Indian population, and a high level of uneducated masses in the country as compared to China. The caste system still practised in the country will impede on Indian's growth rate, create poverty and bring many social injustices, and hamper individual development to climb the economic ladder.

I love how they try to hire Indian looking journalist to as an attempt to look unbiased. There is no pressure, it is common sense that people would advise to have babies while they are still healthy and young. It's only the old, washed up women that actually have an issue with legal age women choosing to have kids early in life.

Overpopulation is what it is. Many people don't have jobs nor a home to stay in. And social and cultural problems make you stuck in this cycle forever. Please don't brag about you are no 1 in polulation. It is no a good thing.
